13:30 – Ile Atlantique (each way)
Ballyburn is the obvious one and he’s the short-priced fav. However, I have doubts as he has never been to Cheltenham plus you are not sure if he will settle in the race as he does look keen to get on with it. I would rather back Ile Atlantique at an each-way price. He has some very good form to his name and will relish this test.
14:10 – Stay Away Fay
All the talk in the build up to this has been about Fact To File. I’d fancy him more if Fact to File was in the 2m 4f race, he would be a good thing. However, I am not as convinced over this 3m trip. The ground looks like it’ll be very soft and if this turns into a slog I would rather have a stayer on my side, so I like Stay Away Fay. It was a very good run against seasoned campaigners in the Cotswold Chase and he won last year’s Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle over three miles.
14:50 – Doddiethegreat
Doddiethegreat ran very well when finishing fourth in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury over two miles, staying on strongly despite meeting interference at crucial parts of the race. The step up in trip to 2m 5f should play to his strengths and I can see him going close for trainer Nicky Henderson.
15:30 – El Fabiolo
Champion Chase
I feel guilty about deserting Jonbon! Everything has to go right for Jonbon to win and even then you are relying on El Fabiolo making a a mistake at a crucial time late on, for Johbon to capitalise. He has always managed to sort his feet out when he makes an error and can do so again if he needs to.
16:10 – Delta Work
This is a real specialist race and for that reason I am going for the proven performer over these fences. Delta Work is value as far as I am concerned.
16:50 – Libberty Hunter
Harry Cobden has been booked to ride Libberty Hunter and with the ground on the slow side, that is the right way to go.
17:30 – Romeo Coolio
I know the lads that own Romeo Coolio and they are very excited about him. They will celebrate hard if he wins as they missed out when Mount Ida won as it was Covid and no owners were allowed in. He looked good when winning his only start at Fairyhouse.
