14:05 Take No Chances
TAKE NO CHANCES was pulled up in a three-mile mares’ handicap hurdle at Newbury last time, but she shaped better than that result would suggest, as a shocking mistake at the second last put an instant halt to the progress she was making. It was still too far out to tell how she would have fared on her handicap debut, but she was in the process of running creditably and looks like a player back in novice company here. Before that Newbury effort, she had won at Huntingdon on her hurdles debut and then chased home a decent prospect at Market Rasen.
14:40 Scrum Diddly
SCRUM DIDDLY won a couple of handicap hurdles for Oliver Sherwood last season, was strong in the betting on his chasing debut, and first start for Harry Derham in a novice handicap at Newbury in November. He failed to meet expectations on that occasion. But gave a much better account of himself when runner-up at Ascot next time, laying down a strong challenge to the odds-on favourite and arguably showing better form than he’d managed over hurdles. He ran respectably when third over this course and distance when last seen in December and looks a big player here in this lower grade in a race containing several with something to prove.
15:15 Storm Control
STORM CONTROL was well beaten on his first start in veterans’ company on his reappearance at Cheltenham in December but this is a weaker affair, and his trainer, Kerry Lee, has her horses in superb order. Storm Control continues to slide in the weights and is now 6 lb lower than the mark he defied at Newbury a couple of years ago, so he looks worth siding with for Lee who has had four winners from her last six runners.
15:50 My Gift To You
MY GIFT TO YOU has fared well since joining James Owen in the summer, winning twice over hurdles and twice over fences. He suffered his first defeat over fences when runner-up at Southwell last month, but he found only an improved rival too strong and was 20 lengths clear of the remainder. That was arguably his best effort yet, and a 4 lb rise in the weights should not prevent another bold bid.

16:25 Lady Mendoza
LADY MENDOZA attracted some support on her first start for six months at Musselburgh in November, and she shaped well in second, finding only a progressive rival too strong. Lady Mendoza stuck to her task well in that two-and-a-half miler and, still unexposed as a stayer, she should benefit from a return to three miles. She can go well off the same mark here.
17:00 Mister Meggit
There are a few interesting newcomers here but MISTER MEGGIT looked a very good prospect when running out an easy winner on his debut at Carlisle. Mister Meggit travelled strongly on the heels of the leaders, and quickened well away inside the final furlong, proving value for even more than the winning margin of 12 lengths, so he should be tough to beat under a penalty.
