We’ve a real mixture with good action from coming where the ITV cameras are at Kelso. We also have the Greatwood Handicap Chase at Newbury, plus the Grimthorpe up at Doncaster.

13:20 Newbury – Fortescue

Really interesting that Henry Daly has booked Harry Cobden to ride Fortescue. His best run this season was on heavy ground at Chepstow when only beaten 6 1/2 lengths by subsequent Welsh National winner Nasalam. He will love conditions and is the one to be on here.

13:42 Kelso – The Kalooki Kid

This is a novice who contested a Grade 2 that has already thrown up another Grade 2 winner with Lump Sum, who finished 5 lengths in front of him winning the Dovecote at Kempton last weekend. The Kalooki Kid has scope with his handicap mark and interesting that Nicky Richards has chosen to run here.

13:55 Newbury – Gemirande

We have not seen the best of Bill Baxter this season. It was unsuitably quick ground at Cheltenham in January. He is proven on very soft and he races here off only 2 higher than when winning the Topham over the Grand National fences at Aintree in April. The other horse of interest is Gemirande. He was a runaway winner at Newbury, then narrowly failing to follow up in this contest last season when the ground had dried. He will love conditions, and I think can cause a minor surprise and win here.

14:17 Kelso – Jango Baie

Jango Baie didn’t have the run of the race when getting stopped in his tracks at a crucial time last time out. He is highly regarded by the team and does have to give weight away in this contest, but this does look a good opportunity for him.

14:35 Doncaster – Malystic

Malystic is slowly coming back into form, the talent is there but sometimes just needs a little bit of luck. This could be the race to get back on track.

14:50 Kelso – Under Control

I think this filly is still reasonably handicapped. She is 10lbs higher than when beating Betfair Hurdle winner Iberico Lord at Sandown last season. This is a good trip for her and as long as the ground is not too soft she is a confident selection. It was a very solid run behind Ashroe Diamond at Doncaster last time out and if she wins here, she may well chase £100,000 bonus if she were to win at the Cheltenham Festival. Salsada is a very interesting runner, so keep an eye on the market.

15:10 Doncaster – Lunar Discovery

She is 9lbs better off for a neck defeat with Dontyawantme and is a very solid performer. Keep an eye on a market move for Mellificent as it could be significant.

15:25 Kelso – Monbeg Genius

I am a big fan of this horse and he ran a very good race at Newbury in the old Hennessy racing off the same mark here so has to be of interest, especially with the Grand National as his main aim. The danger here is Minella Drama. He ran a hell of a race in the Grade 1 at Aintree last season and if he is allowed to dominate on the front end he might be tough to pass.

15:40 Doncaster – Undersupervision

This horse loves Doncaster and he’s a course and distance winner. He ran strongly off the same mark in this race last year, finishing second. Ground is not an issue, his course form plus the trainer having his horses in good heart makes Undersupervision a worthy selection.
