14:35 Ezmerellda

Four-year-old EZMERELLDA looks on a fair mark switched to handicap company and can take advantage of her weight allowance to score for the second time over hurdles having won a maiden for juvenile fillies at Doncaster in December. Passing Kate has held her form well since joining Matt Sheppard and represents a strong-looking Leicester form line with the pair who beat her there both winners since, so she merits plenty of respect. Konigin Isabella is also respected on her first start since falling when going well in this race last year.

15:05 Tedley

This maiden hurdle looks a match on paper between TEDLEY and Goonhilly, with Nigel Twiston-Davies’ runner getting the vote on the back of a good second at Ffos Las earlier in the month when he and winner Willsburg pulled clear of the rest. Dan Skelton’s charge would be a major threat if reproducing his Aintree effort when second to Tedley’s stablemate Norman Fletcher two starts back, while Just Four Fame can fill out third making his hurdling debut returning from 21 months on the sidelines since finishing third in an Aintree bumper.

15:35 Pedley Wood

PEDLEY WOOD has taken well to fences this term and can quickly resume winning ways with Freddie Gingell taking off a valuable 5 lb. He was a winner at Hereford and Taunton on his first two starts this term before a creditable second to Heaven Smart in a novices’ handicap at Kempton last time. Pachacuti, placed in all three of his completed starts over fences, should go well again, while Windance would have made a winning return had he not unshipped his rider at the last at Plumpton on Monday so has obvious claims off the same mark if taking his chance.

16:05 Tune In A Box

TUNE IN A BOX has done nothing but improve since sent handicapping and, having been denied a hat-trick by just a short head when edged out by well-treated veteran Bobo Mac at Ffos Las on his most recent outing, he remains of strong interest. Haas Boy bounced back to form when finishing well for third at Huntingdon last month and is sure to be on the premises with a repeat, while Defi Nonantais could take another step forward on his handicap debut after finishing third to the useful Masaccio in a novice at Kempton last time.

16:35 Royal Sam

It could be worth chancing ROYAL SAM who was twice runner-up in handicap hurdles last term and showed an aptitude for chasing until the rise in class and possibly lack of fitness told on his first start for Michael Blake at Exeter last month, shaping better than a last of five finishers would suggest. The pair at the head of the weights, Flash Gorcombe and Moytier, are closely matched on their latest run at Exeter where they finished third and fourth respectively behind Bolsover Bill, and they head the dangers.

17:05 Famous Clermont

FAMOUS CLERMONT is one of the best hunter chasers around, winning three times last season, notably the Foxhunters’ at Aintree, which he won easily after cruising into contention, and, after beating his sole rival for his latest point success last month, is fully expected to make a successful return to Rules. Espoir de Guye, who was smart for Paul Nicholls in his prime, and Lieutenant Rocco, fourth in the Cross Country at Cheltenham last year, both have the quality to trouble the selection but neither are as reliable.
