14:05 Indian Louis
INDIAN LOUIS made too many mistakes when only fifth over this course and distance a fortnight ago, but his jumping had looked an asset when making a successful start to his chasing career at Musselburgh prior to that, and he’s given a chance to atone. Nights In Venice and Fia Fuinidh tend to travel well but haven’t delivered much at the business end recently so the reliable Travail d’Orfevre is probably the most solid option for the forecast spot.
14:35 Blue Denfer
This isn’t the strongest race of its type by any means and the two Irish raiders, BLEU DENFER and Sirekoff look set to dominate proceedings. The former sets the standard on form and has been in good order over fences recently. He represents connections that do well at this track and he can notch a first career success.

15:05 Ballycoose
This looks a very interesting novices’ handicap chase and BALLYCOOSE is taken to build on the excellent impression he made when making a winning start over fences over two and a half miles at this course last month.
He bettered his hurdles form at the first attempt, jumping boldly and having more in hand than the official margin suggests, not doing much on the run-in. This drop to two miles won’t be a problem given the speed he showed last time and a subsequent 5lb rise in the weights may well underestimate him. Gardener and Traprain Law may give him most to think about.
15:35 Eire Street
EIRE STREET showed much improved form on just his second start for this yard on his handicap debut at Carlisle last week, proving that his opening mark was woefully inadequate as he pulled 25 lengths clear of his opposition.
Connections have wisely turned him out under a 7lb penalty and, with this longer trip sure to be no problem, he will take plenty of stopping in conditions which suit. Largy Shark had an excuse at Aintree last time and had a positive profile prior to that so he’s second choice.
16:10 I Am Max
I AM MAX made appeal on paper – out of an unraced half-sister to top-class hurdler/fairly useful chaser in France – and he could hardly have created a better impression on his debut when a ready winner of a Carlisle bumper three weeks ago.
He was well supported that day and, with connections wasting no time switching to hurdles, he is expected to build on that promise and make a winning start in this sphere, too. Lucinda Russell trains the obvious dangers, albeit from different backgrounds in point-winner Dollar Collar and ex-Flat performer Two Auld Pals.

16:45 Gypseys Secret
GYPSEYS SECRET exceeded expectations by some way when third to a progressive type in maiden company at Kelso last time, starting at 80/1 and, with stamina her forte, she’s worth siding with back in handicap company from a basement mark in what doesn’t look the deepest race. Fiveafterfour made a winning handicap debut at Ayr recently and there should be more to come at this trip, so she’s the obvious threat.
17:20 Red Ned
RED NED didn’t show much in points, but he made an odds-on newcomer work hard starting out in bumpers at Southwell in November, leading on entering the straight and only headed inside the final furlong. He rallied all the way to the line, though, and he rates the percentage call with improvement likely. Derryhassen Paddy and Frisby both tasted success between the flags and market support for either would look significant.
