13:45 – Country Lady

COUNTRY LADY showed fairly useful form when winning a bumper at Plumpton last season, and she has made a promising enough start over hurdles recently, hitting the frame in each of her two starts. She left the impression she was still learning over slightly further at this course last time, and it would be no surprise if she were to make an opening mark of 102 look quite lenient now entering handicaps. Tribesmans Glory and Nordic Tiger can also make their presence felt.

14:15 – Brave Jen

BRAVE JEN remains a maiden, but she left the form of her hurdling debut well behind when finishing runner-up in a mares’ listed event at Newbury in December, outrunning odds of 50/1 and only beaten a neck. She was sent off an even bigger price in the Challow Hurdle last time, but found that company too steep, off the bridle by halfway and never going on the softest ground she has encountered. On her previous form, she sets the standard on form back in novice company, though, and will likely take the beating if back on song. Betty’s Tiara is open to improvement and looks like a feasible danger, while Larchmont Lass could feature if the longer trip brings more out of her.

14:45 – Steel Ally

STEEL ALLY didn’t build on his encouraging start in bumpers start in bumpers. But, he made a very encouraging start over hurdles at Ffos Las in November, arguably unlucky not to win. He had the run of the race but was in control when a very awkward landing at the last handed the initiative to one he’d otherwise have kept at bay. Admittedly, he disappointed last time, way too keen in testing conditions, but he has been freshened up since and is well worth another chance to confirm the promise of his debut in this sphere. Dartmoor Pirate rates the chief threat ahead of Salvatore and American Land.

15:15 – Fire Flyer

This doesn’t look like the strongest race of its type, and it looks like an excellent opportunity for FIRE FLYER to open his account over hurdles. He had some useful form in bumpers and made a promising start in this sphere when runner-up at Newbury in December, in need of experience in the jumping department and hanging to his right on the run-in but displaying plenty of ability. The winner that day looks a very smart prospect and has since franked the form, and Fire Flyer sets a solid standard in this field. Thank You Ma’am looks the obvious danger on form, whilst fair Flat performer Zhang Fei warrants respect on his first crack over hurdles.

15:45 – Take Your Time

TAKE YOUR TIME lost his way over hurdles after recording a couple of wins in 2021/22. But he had dropped a long way in the weights as a result, and has bounced back to form since being sent chasing – he was a winner in points – making a successful start in this sphere at Newton Abbot and following up in grand style over this course and distance in December. He drew clear of his rivals in the manner of a horse with even more to offer last time and is strongly fancied to defy a further 8 lb rise in the weights to complete a hat-trick. The in-form Jacamar is unexposed over this trip and could pose the main threat, while veteran Copperhead isn’t without hope.

16:15 – Lalor

LALOR is now a 12-year-old and has an absence of almost two years to overcome. But, if he retains the bulk of his ability, he should outclass his rivals now having his first start in a hunter chase. Goose Man is the solid alternative if the selection isn’t on his game, and Wick Green should give his running again.

16:45 – Jubilee Alpha

The ones with experience don’t set an exacting standard, so the preference is to side with a newcomer, and JUBILEE ALPHA fits the bill nicely. She cost €120,000 as a three-year-old, is a half-sister to Four Clean Aces, who won a bumper on her debut and represents a top yard that has plenty of winners in this sphere. Notorious Pink and I’ve Madeupmymind are others to monitor in the betting.
