Show No Fear came good with an emphatic win over C&D early this month, and he backed that up with a close call at Southwell 11 days ago. He’s strongly respected, but the slight preference is for EAGLES REALM, who has won three in a row since returning to the Flat in October and may well be able to strike again on his step back up to 2m. Ney has possibilities if he copes with this new trip, while others who could be in the mix are Crystal Guard and Can Can Girl.

16:25 BONITO CAVALO

5yo BONITO CAVALO has a record of 0-22 on turf, but the switch to AW did the trick for him when he justified support in a classified event here two weeks ago. He has a 6lb rise to deal with backup in trip, but he was strong at the finish last time, and his confidence should be boosted after that comfortable success. The other last-time-out winner, Royal Prospect, is feared most, ahead of Sparkling Spirit and Kananga.

17:00 WALEEFY

Top of the list is the William Haggas-trained WALEEFY, who is from an excellent family and made a promising start with his eye-catching third at Lingfield last month. Tourist sets a good standard on his best form, but he didn’t fire last time, and the main threat could come from Only In Jakarta, who was runner-up in his final two starts last summer and looks interesting at this new trip. Others to keep an eye on are Richard Fahey’s pair Rob’s Umberella and Parthenopaeus.

17:30 WEE FAT MAC

A trappy event in which all six runners have something to recommend them. Glory Fighter should be primed after two runs back from a break, and he’s a contender, while Rory and Henery Hawk are in better order than recent form figures might indicate. WEE FAT MAC’s two wins last month came in Class 6 company, but he looked good over C&D on his penultimate start, and he could take another step forward back at 5f.

18:00 GOOD MORNING ALEX

Dire Wolf scored under a positive ride at Lingfield last Monday and is respected under a penalty on this drop back in trip, but preference is for the other last-time-out winner in GOOD MORNING ALEX. He found plenty of improvement with his breakthrough win at Southwell last month, and that form has worked out. The other one on the shortlist is Supreme Tenacity, who went close here in October and shaped as though he needed the run at Wolverhampton on his recent return.

18:30 PANAMA CITY

This is a tight call between the two last-time-out winners in Eleven Eleven and PANAMA CITY. The former won with authority over C&D 18 days ago and remains feasibly treated. But the vote goes to Panama City, who made it 2-4 on AW with his comfortable win at Wolverhampton last month. The other one on the shortlist is Danielsflyer, who has finished placed here in his last two runs and is respected on this drop back in grade.

19:00 STAR ZINC (NAP)

A competitive race in which the vote goes to dual Tapeta winner STAR ZINC (NAP), who was as good as ever when a close second at Southwell last time and is only 1lb higher here. Swiss Ace has had a win and close third here in his last two starts, and he’s feared most, ahead of Hortzadar, who could be a big factor if he gets a good pace and some luck. Jahidin has possibilities on his step up in trip, while Charlie Johnston’s Dornoch Castle needs a close look on his return.
