13:15 – Master Chewy

I’m confident a cracking Lingfield card on Sunday will beat the weather and can’t wait for the action. Coverage on ITV starts here with the re-scheduled Grade 2 Lightning Novices’ Chase over 2m. There’s likely to be a gallop on here with Matata, Djelo and JPR One all possible front runners on fairly quick ground. That means I really like MASTER CHEWY, who travelled like a dream off the pace at Kempton last time and really came of age. With a mark of 150 he has a huge chance and yet doesn’t look like going off favourite. He’s the one for me for Nigel Twiston-Davies and his excellent son Sam.

    13:50 – Frero Banbou

Now a handicap chase over 2m. This is open. FRERO BANBOU is in great shape and while he’s high in the handicap off 136 he gets a real chance with First Flow keeping the weights down. My hope ran really well at Cheltenham last time behind Shakem Up’Arry and was also a fine third to Fugitif at that track. He’s been dropped 4lb which looks very fair and I’m not worried about the drop in trip. Charlie Deutsch rides for Venetia Williams.

    14:25 – Bold Endeavour

This is a handicap hurdle over 2m7f. This is tough. BOLD ENDEAVOUR is slightly down in trip on ground he loves and must have an eachway chance once again for Nicky Henderson and the returning Nico de Boinville. My hope has been beaten off 145, 140, 139, 143 and 142 in recent races so going here off 144 means he has nothing in hand. But he should run a race after his second to White Rhino at Cheltenham last time.

      15:00 – Protektorat

The Fleur de Lys Chase over 2m6f. I couldn’t even think of backing class act L’Homme Presse at odds on after the lay off. He might win, but the ground will be fast enough so I’ll take him on. The obvious one is PROTEKTORAT, who has 9lb to find on official figures but who is very good when he gets his act together which he doesn’t always. Dan Skelton’s runner has been placed in a Gold Cup and ran all right when third behind Broadway Boy at Cheltenham last time, although the winner let the form down at Warwick last time. Harry Skelton rides.

      15:35 – Not Sure

Finally the Surrey National Handicap Chase over 3m5f. Very hard to sort this out. NOT SURE was a distance fourth in the Welsh National behind Nassalam but at least he finished and it looked as though he enjoyed a real stamina test. He’s one of many in here that doesn’t have much form over this far but Kerry Lee often has proper stayers and I’ll take a chance on him with Richard Patrick looking for a welcome winner. An each-way chance.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
