Rory Delargy’s Champion Chase Antepost Tips:
El Fabiolo
Edwardstone (each way)
Jonbon
In the second of this year’s Paddy Power Media’s ‘From The Horse’s Mouth’ podcast ‘Cheltenham Countdown’, host Tom Nugent together with former champion jockey turned tv pundit Ruby Walsh and well-known journalist and broadcaster Rory Delargy, look at the Champion Chase on day two of the 2024 Cheltenham Festival.
RORY DELARGY
I don’t think Jonbon has suddenly improved since last season but he has looked as good as ever in his two wins this season.
He’s good enough to win the Champion Chase if everything goes in his favour, however, El Fabiolo has also proven good enough and he just has the edge out of the two.
El Fabiolo winning the Arkle Chase last season is the best piece of form, but we will have another bit of information if the Clarence House at Ascot goes ahead on Saturday and they both line up.
Based on the current odds, I wouldn’t be going ‘all in’ on having an ante-post bet on either El Fabiolo or Jonbon. You definitely want to see how the Clarence House plays out first.

Edwardstone looked like he was going to the Ryanair Chase , but I don’t see that happening now after a tame effort last weekend so he now becomes interesting in terms of picking up place money for the Champion Chase behind the big two in the market.
Alan King now knows he’s got a horse that stays further but he needs a well-run race over shorter. The two-mile Champion Chase is the only race for him now.
My 1-2-3 for the Champion Chase would be: El Fabiolo, Edwardstone and Jonbon.
