12:42 Mister Policeman

MISTER POLICEMAN was expected to confirm himself a top-class prospect on his chasing debut at Fairyhouse in November, but it ended up being far from plain sailing, only getting on top close home to win by three-quarters of a length.

It certainly wasn’t as straightforward as one might have expected given his prohibitive odds, though a steadily-run affair which turned into a sprint was probably against him. He remains one to be positive about and it will be no surprise if he leaves that form well behind here on his way to bigger and better things.

13:12 Snake Oil

SNAKE OIL belatedly matched his hurdles form when contesting his first handicap over fences at Leopardstown on Boxing Day, staying on well on the run-in to pass the post only four lengths behind the winner.

That was a big step in the right direction and the timefigure adds plenty of substance to the form. Still low mileage as a chaser, Snake Oil should have more to offer if brushing up on his jumping (not always fluent at Leopardstown) and he’s one to be interested in from just a 1lb higher mark.

    13:42 Firefox

FIREFOX was a talented performer in bumpers and his hurdling debut at Fairyhouse last month suggested he could be destined for the very top. That was a strong-looking maiden in which he came up against another exciting prospect in Ballyburn, but he was ultimately well on top at the finish having dictated a steady gallop, always doing enough late on to win by two and a half lengths.

Ballyburn gave that form a boost when winning by a wide margin at Leopardstown over Christmas and Firefox looks certain to make his mark at this level with further progress on the cards.

    14:12 Tullyhill

TULLYHILL was turned over at very short odds when making his hurdling debut at Punchestown in November, weakening tamely in the straight to be beaten fully 24 lengths at the line.

He’s been given a good break since, though, and it’s far too soon to be writing him off given how promising he looked in bumpers last season, producing his best effort when chasing home the classy A Dream To Share in a Grade 1 event at the Punchestown Festival. This looks just an ordinary maiden and it will disappointing if Tullyhill can’t get his career back on track with a first win over hurdles.

    14:42 Quornofamonday

QUORNOFAMONDAY improved again and probably should have won when filling the runner-up spot at Fairyhouse last time. Beaten just half a length at the line, he looked in control at one stage (hit a low of 1.1 in-running on the Betfair Exchange) but gave it away with a couple of late mistakes, crucially at the last before he was headed in the final strides.

It was very much an opportunity missed, but Quornofamonday is well worth a chance to make amends from just a 3lb higher mark, with further progress not out of the question now dropping back to two miles.

        15:12 Poppy Rose

POPPY ROSE has taken her form up a notch in two starts this season, first returning from eight months off with a good third at Navan in November and then running at least as well when finding one too strong at Naas the following month. She was beaten just a length and a half on the last occasion, leading briefly on the approach to the last before the much-improved winner took control.

She’s clearly returned in a rich vein of form and a 2lb rise in the weights might not be enough to prevent her from going one place better if continuing to go the right way.

        15:47 Kelley Kapowski

KELLEY KAPOWSKI is closely related to a few winners on the Flat, including the useful Elusive Time, who won an Irish Cambridgeshire back in 2017. Trained by Gordon Elliott, who has already sent out a handful of winning newcomers in Irish bumpers this season, Kelley Kapowski appeals as another likely type and could be the way to go in a race where the market is likely to prove the best guide.
