Stage Star has got to bounce back from a bad run in the Paddy Power New Year’s Day Handicap Chase at Cheltenham and I was surprised that Paul Nicholls ran him that day as he’d spoken about going straight to the Festival in March. The ground was never going to suit him.
The yard said he was stiff that day but he just didn’t jump and dominate like he did before that at Cheltenham in November. He can bounce back but I’m not having his price.
The issue with Edwardstone is whether he’s a two-miler and I’m not sure that Alan King knows.
I like Banbridge at the prices. He hasn’t been seen since Aintree last season where he beat Stage Star well. He needs good-ish ground.
People may think he’s had a setback but I’m under the impression he’s been ready to run for about a month so I’m not too concerned right now.

Banbridge was arguably the top novice over two and a half miles yet he’s ignored in the betting for this. If the signs are good before he next runs, I’ll probably have a go before the race and then double down ahead of Cheltenham in March.
If he rocks up (at Kempton) and shows his well being he could be even shorter for this, so it could be a smart antepost bet.
