17:00 Mr Squires

Saturday’s C&D winner El Hibri is an obvious candidate, while the consistent, if frustrating, Mumayaz is another with a realistic chance. However, electing to cast the net slightly wider, there’s scope to expect a bold effort from MR SQUIRES on his first attempt over this 6f trip. He’s on a more manageable mark nowadays and shaped encouragingly on his first start since a gelding operation.

17:30 Page Three

Wolverhampton maiden winner Assail makes his handicap debut after only two starts and is the one with most potential but this may be fought out by PAGE THREE and Royal Dream. Both ran very similar races in the same 1m3f contest at Kempton five weeks ago, where they were ridden very patiently and probably ended up with too much to do before making good headway in the straight. Slight preference is for Andrew Balding’s mare, who seems to have been aided by cheekpieces lately.

18:00 Fox Flame

Bringbackmemories is a major player with the form of his second here on AW debut last time having already been boosted, while Luna Effect has shown enough to suggest he can figure in a race like this. The unexposed pair Orange N Blue and L’Argent are worth monitoring in the betting, but it may be worth taking a chance with FOX FLAME. Her recent form is uninspiring but she has won and been narrowly beaten in her two starts over C&D and is back off her last winning mark.

18:30 JACQUES CARTIER

A few of these have met each other already. Turing improved from his debut when not beaten far into fifth of 13 at Kempton last month and should go close if taking another step forward, but he may have to give best to JACQUES CARTIER who had two of these behind when a promising third of 12 on his Wolverhampton debut. The longer trip is likely to suit him.

    19:00 Follow Your Heart

Four of these met at Wolverhampton on Boxing Day with Intervention first, FOLLOW YOUR HEART second, Lord Of The Lodge third and Misty Grey fourth. Mark Loughnane’s gelding is taken to come out on top this time, as he is much better drawn than the pair who finished either side of him a fortnight ago, though Lord Of The Lodge could make another bold bid from the front. Of the others, Chuzzlewit is interesting with the 4yo still unexposed after eight starts and the best of him may still be to come.

    19:30 Enola Gray (NAP)

Some in-form rivals clash here, including ENOLA GREY (nap) who has won at Newcastle under Ethan Jones on her last two outings and has finished runner-up in both starts over C&D. She is taken to get the better of the penalised pair Storymaker and Maysan, with the former, who won here on Saturday, looking the main danger.

    20:00 Broughton’s Flare

A weak race. Gypsy Whisper has proved the model of consistency lately and probably deserves to win a race on the AW, but Scott Dixon’s charge could be forced to play second fiddle to BROUGHTONS FLARE. The selection scored three times during January last year and shaped as if coming to hand when fourth at Wolverhampton last week.

    20:30 Blazing Hot

Resilience appears to have dropped to a mark he can be competitive from and cheekpieces are now given a go, while Yaahobby is back off his last winning mark. However, the selection is BLAZING HOT who is still 3lb lower than when gaining his latest success over C&D at the end of 2022. He has been off 71 days but has won after a similar absence in the past.
