12:30 Brandy Love

BRANDY LOVE was let down by her jumping when failing to land the odds on her chasing debut at Gowran Park in November, making no impression on the winner after hitting the last. She shaped as if the run would bring her on in terms of fitness and the experience won’t have been lost on her, either.

A smart hurdler at one time, notably winning a Grade 1 at Fairyhouse in April 2022, Brandy Love is the class act in this line-up and it looks an excellent opportunity for her to get off the mark over fences at the second attempt.

13:00 Mister Policeman

MISTER POLICEMAN was expected to confirm himself a top-class prospect on his chasing debut at Fairyhouse in November, but it ended up being far from plain sailing, only getting on top close home to win by three quarters of a length. It certainly wasn’t as straightforward as one might have expected given his prohibitive odds, though a steadily-run affair which turned into a sprint was probably against him.

He remains one to be positive about and it will be no surprise if he leaves that form well behind here on his way to bigger and better things.

13:30 Invictus Machin

INVICTUS MACHIN achieved a fairly useful level of form in four starts over hurdles and his most recent effort at Fairyhouse was his best yet since he was sent chasing, albeit he was still beaten a long way behind Mister Policeman.

He now makes the switch to handicaps and it will be interesting to see whether the market speaks in his favour. The feeling remains that we’ve only scratched the surface of his potential as a chaser and there should be a race like this in him somewhere down the line from a lowly mark.

14:00 Firefox

FIREFOX was a talented performer in bumpers and his hurdling debut at Fairyhouse last month suggested he could be destined for the very top. That was a strong-looking maiden in which he came up against another exciting prospect in Ballyburn, but he was ultimately well on top at the finish having dictated a steady gallop, always doing enough late on to win by two and a half lengths.

Ballyburn gave that form a boost when winning by a wide margin at Leopardstown over Christmas and Firefox looks certain to make his mark at this level with further progress on the cards.

14:35 Tullyhill

TULLYHILL was turned over at very short odds when making his hurdling debut at Punchestown in November, weakening tamely in the straight to be beaten fully 24 lengths at the line.

He’s been given a good break since, though, and it’s far too soon to be writing him off given how promising he looked in bumpers last season, producing his best effort when chasing home the classy A Dream To Share in a Grade 1 event at the Punchestown Festival. This looks just like an ordinary maiden and it will disappointing if Tullyhill can’t get his career back on track with a first win over hurdles.

15:10 Circus Act

CIRCUS ACT is yet to fire in three starts over hurdles this season, but her latest run on the Flat at Dundalk suggests she could be on the way back, sticking to her task well in first-time cheekpieces to be beaten just half a length.

That was a step in the right direction and she’s very capable over hurdles on her day, as she showed when finishing fifth in a good-quality contest at Cheltenham in April. She’s dropped to a workable mark if getting back to that sort of level and a big run could be on the cards in another change of headgear (blinkers replacing cheekpieces).

15:40 Kelley Kapowski

KELLEY KAPOWSKI is closely related to a few winners on the Flat, including the useful Elusive Time, who won an Irish Cambridgeshire back in 2017. Trained by Gordon Elliott, who has already sent out a handful of winning newcomers in Irish bumpers this season, Kelley Kapowski appeals as another likely type and could be the way to go in a race where the market is likely to prove the best guide.
