13:35 Wincanton – Mr Grey Sky
With Sandown off, ITV go to Wincanton and Newcastle on Saturday starting here with a handicap chase over just short of 2m. Magic Saint could be chucked in but the ground was supposedly too fast for him last time – even though he had decent form on similar – and in the past he has never wanted heavy.
I’m happy to stick with MR GREY SKY for Kim Bailey and David Bass with cheekpieces on for the first time. He goes on deep ground and was in great shape before pulling up at Newbury last time. It was reported then he wanted deeper ground than soft – well he gets it here!
13:40 Newcastle – Two Auld Pals
A novices’ hurdle over 2m1f. A huge chance for TWO AULD PALS to get off the mark for Lucinda Russell and Patrick Wedge who takes off 3lb. The former Flat racer was a good second over hurdles at Bangor and deep ground is no issue. Should stay well.
14:10 Wincanton – Daany (each way)
This is a handicap hurdle over 1m7f. This is wide open. Not many of these want heavy going, but one who does enjoy it is DAANY for Micheal Nolan and trainer Joe Tickle. My selection is down 1lb after a fair fourth at Exeter having been crazily pumped up 7lb for a 6th place at the same venue three runs ago. He has each-way claims.
14:15 Newcastle – Handstands
Another novices’ hurdle over an extended 2m4f. This is not going to take much sorting out as HANDSTANDS will be short to get a hat-trick up for in form Ben Jones and Ben Pauling. The recent Hereford winner looks useful.
14:45 Wincanton – Jacamar (each way)
Here’s a handicap chase over 2m4f. Another tough contest. JACAMAR has been out of form for a long time now and is way down the handicap on 118 having once been up to 139. Soft ground is not an issue although heavy is a bit of a worry. A sign of being in all right shape at this track last time when second to Sheldon. I’ll have a few quid on eachway. Bradley Harris takes off 5lb for Anthony Charlton.

14:50 Newcastle – Empty Nest
A handicap chase over 2m4f. Plenty out of form here in a low grade heat. EMPTY NEST has run well enough in two recent defeats to suggest he has to go close for Mark Walford and Jamie Hamilton. That said, ground is a real worry so hard to be confident.
15:20 Wincanton – Intimate
Another handicap hurdle this time over an extended 2m5f. Hard to know whether a mark of 110 is fair for INTIMATE but the gelding is in decent form and goes on heavy ground. A second at Fontwell was followed by a third at Uttoxeter and he was a little unlucky last time. Goes for Venetia Williams and Shane Quinlan.
15:25 Newcastle – Robert D’Ores
A handicap hurdle over an extended 2m4f. ROBERT D’ORES is up 1lb for unseating last time but probably would have won so has every chance for Jonathon Bewley and George Bewley. The French bred gelding has no issue with bottomless ground and should stay as a 3m point-to-point winner back in the day.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
