16:55 Stella Hogan

STELLA HOGAN has shown improved form on her last couple of starts, getting off the mark in good style from off the pace over this course and distance in October before meeting trouble when beaten half a length by Once Adaay at Chelmsford on her latest outing.

She is taken to resume winning ways, though Laura’s Breeze is better drawn than for her last two races and isn’t taken lightly back over seven furlongs, while No News is also considered after a first career success over this course and distance three weeks ago.

17:30 Arts Of War

Having shaped well in a back-end Newmarket novice when fourth to the very promising filly Love Dynasty, ARTS OF WAR wasn’t seen to best effect when third to Kathmandu in a similar event at Southwell just under six weeks ago.

Sure to have more to offer, Roger Varian’s filly, an expensive breeze-up purchase by Dubawi, gets the nod to make it third time lucky at the expense of Private Getaway, who got back on track when sixth here two weeks ago. Bas Bleu and newcomer Miss Monte Carlo are another couple worth keeping an eye on.

    18:00 Fiscal Policy

Course-and-distance winner FISCAL POLICY was twice successful at other all-weather tracks in 2023 and shaped as if still in good form at Chelmsford when fourth to Dicko The Legend at Chelmsford last time having been left poorly placed.

The Dan & Claire Kubler-trained gelding gets the vote ahead of Ithra who returned to form when third at Lingfield a fortnight ago. Vape was front rank for a long way at Wolverhampton on his latest outing and should strip fitter for that run from a reduced mark.

    18:30 Big R

A few in with a squeak in the second division of this sprint handicap but the vote goes to BIG R who was possibly in need of the outing after four months off when finishing down the field at Southwell recently.

He was placed on his two starts here as a two-year-old, so Eve Johnson Houghton’s gelding can belatedly open his account fitted with first-time blinkers. Em Jay Kay’s consistency is hard to knock after ending 2023 in good form so he’s put forward as the main threat, with Hiatus and Roman Spring taken to fight out third.

    19:00 Ippotheos

IPPOTHEOS failed to repeat his stable debut win for Mick Appleby at Wolverhampton earlier in December when only fourth at the same track last time but he wasn’t seen to best effect in a steadily-run race and is well worth another chance reverting to six furlongs.

Engineer ran well behind useful prospect Mukaafah in a novice over this course and distance on his most recent outing and is an interesting handicap debutant for Clive Cox, with Bulldog Drummond respected up 5lb for his Newcastle triumph.

        19:30 Liseo

LISEO was a bit keener than ideal when fourth at Chelmsford last time and is worth another chance having fared best of those held up when filling the same position behind Max Mayhem in a valuable event over this course and distance in November.

Ocean Heights is going the right way after registering his first win on the Flat in an apprentice race here last month and must enter the reckoning, with former course winner Precision Storm another to consider having dropped to a handy mark.

        20:00 Mclean House

MCLEAN HOUSE is a lightly-raced and progressive four-year-old for Andrew Balding and is selected to make it four wins from as many starts over this course and distance following his latest success in a handicap here last month when edging ahead late on for a neck win over Soar Above.

A 4lb rise looks fair and further improvement cannot be ruled out. C&D winner Revolutionise, fourth at Chelmsford last time, and Love de Vega who was runner-up in the same race, head the opposition in an open-looking contest.

        20:30 Mamalouka

MAMALOUKA took a big step forward switched to a nursery and upped to a mile when a half-length second to Aljadel at Chelmsford last month despite meeting trouble at a crucial stage.

That was her first start after three months off and a breathing operation and a reproduction of that form could be enough to see her go one better with Tom Marquand in the saddle tonight. Rising Force, fifth in the same race at Chelmsford, and Publicity, third on his nursery debut over course and distance last time, rate the main threats at the top of the weights.
