12:05 – BUTCHER HOLLOW

There are a couple of interesting newcomers representing Gordon Elliott and Willie Mullins but the previous experience of BUTCHER HOLLOW is expected to come to the fore. He was a £200,000 purchase after easily winning his sole start in points and was beaten only by one who had more speed in a steadily-run race on his hurdling debut at Navan earlier this month. The step up to two and a half miles is sure to suit now and he looks a sure-fire improver. Jade de Grugy is sure to be popular having joined Willie Mullins for €230,000 after winning a bumper in France back in October 2022.

12:40 – HELIKO CONTI

A competitive, big-field handicap hurdle where HELIKO CONTI makes the most appeal. He attracted support and returned to his best form on his first start for Paul Nolan having lost his way for his previous yard, driven before the home turn and staying on well to the line. He left the impression that trip wasn’t enough of a test, so looks very interesting now moving up to two and a half miles, and he remains on a fair mark despite a subsequent 4 lb rise. He takes preference over West Away, who arrives on the back of success at Cork (with something to spare), while Music of Tara is also respected.

    13:15 – FACT TO FILE

FACT TO FILE was one of the best around in bumpers last season and, while he didn’t immediately justify the unusual decision to skip hurdling entirely, he did shape with plenty of promise on his chase debut, beaten only by another exciting novice in American Mike. That experience certainly won’t be lost on him, and he is strongly fancied to reap the benefits now for leading connections. It will likely be at the main expense of his stablemate Minella Cocooner, who has had his injury troubles but looked promising when last seen 13 months ago.

    13:50 – IRISH POINT

IRISH POINT was a three-time winner as a novice last season, notably recording an impressive success in the Grade 1 Mersey Novices’ Hurdle over two and a half miles at Aintree. The form of that race has worked out well and he proved better than ever when also making a winning return in a Grade 3 over two miles at Down Royal, battling on well in the closing stages to defeat a smart mare. Connections are aiming him at the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and he is a fascinating runner having his first try at this sort of trip. Last year’s victor Home By The Lee should ensure Gordon Elliott’s five-year-old doesn’t have things all his own way, though.

    14:25 – GERRI COLOMBE

An excellent renewal of the Savills Chase and it is GERRI COLOMBE who is fancied to come out on top. He has met with defeat just once in his career so far – where he was arguably unlucky not to win – and he confirmed himself in top form with a successful return in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal, beating the reopposing Envoi Allen by a neck. Admittedly, he will need to take another step forward now taking on Galopin des Champs and Fastorslow, but he has the scope to progress again and he will remain of big interest. John Durkan hero Fastorslow can confirm the form with last year’s Gold Cup winner Galopin des Champs and provide the main threat.

        15:00 – M C MULDOON

M C MULDOON is a very useful dual-purpose performer who looks very interesting now back over hurdles. He was well beaten in the Irish Cesarewitch and Cesarewitch on his last two starts on the Flat, but he was a good winner over hurdles at Galway when last seen in this sphere and, based on his Flat ability, M C Muldoon is potentially very well treated now handicapping for the first time in this sphere. Absolute Notions, Nine Graces and Lucky Zebo are just a trio of potential threats.

        15:35 – PATTER MERCHANT

PATTER MERCHANT has already showed plenty of ability between the flags, and he’s related to one that was useful in this sphere, so he gets the nod over Sounds Victorius, who also makes plenty of appeal on paper. Market support for Jordann could bring him into the reckoning also, however, so the market needs monitoring.
