King George VI Chase tips and runner-by-runner guide to Kempton 2.30 on Boxing Day

A Christmas cracker!

Bravemansgame jumps to victory in the King George

Bravemansgame is bidding to retain his King George VI Chase title at Kempton on Boxing Day.

Paul Nicholls’ stable star stormed to glory in last year’s renewal but defeats in this season’s Charlie Hall Chase and Betfair Chase means the returning champion has a bit of a point to prove.

The big danger is likely to be Allaho as the dual Ryanair Chase winner makes the trip across the Irish Sea after returning to the track from a long injury lay-off with a facile victory in the Clonmel Oil Chase last month.

Shishkin has had a troubled build up after refusing to race at Ascot and a planned engagement at Newcastle being wrecked by the weather, but Nicky Henderson’s charge boasts the class to return to the winners’ enclosure if he’s on a going day.

Last season’s Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase hero The Real Whacker is also among the principal players. 2020 winner Frodon and this year’s Oaksey Chase winner Hewick complete the field for Tuesday’s 14:30.

King George VI Chase verdict

Timeform: If ALLAHO is still capable of the form he showed when demolishing a bunch of established Grade 1 chasers at Punchestown in April 2022 on his previous attempt at 3m he should come out on top. Last year’s winner Bravemansgame can give him most to do, although Shishkin is also more than capable of having a big say if in the mood.
