So, we decided to put that golden guide to the test and use it to steer you towards what could be a savvy Lucky 15 (4 horses, 15 bets) today. The four you’ll see below are the selections of some of the top-performing tipsters in the Table. Let’s get to the picks…

12:40 Ludlow – Jimmy The Digger (Racing Post)

A few of these like it around here, notably Bobhopeornohope who is opposed with a grimace after his ultra-game win in this 12 months ago off the very same mark. Gaboriot, who was formerly smart in France, is back in the good books after successive victories but the locally-trained JIMMY THE DIGGER should be happier on this ground than when labouring in the mud at Warwick. The 10yo had previously looked on good terms with himself before being unfortunate to depart at Aintree and he was competitive off similar marks during the first half of last season.

14:20 Lingfield – H Key Lails (Daily Mail)

Several of these are happiest played late off a good pace and that wouldn’t be assured given the make up of the race. Edmund Ironside comes here in form but could be hamstrung by the widest stall, while So Chic, who still appeals as being ahead of her mark, isn’t sure to see out 1m. Split Elevens, Recuerdame and Waleyfa all have claims, while keep a close eye on Cephalus in the betting as he’s likely to revive at some point soon. The vote goes to H KEY LAILS, whose best form for his former yard came when racing prominently and he’s well berthed in stall 1 should those tactics be revisited. He had a torrid run up the home straight at Chelmsford two weeks ago and needs serious consideration.

15:00 Ludlow – Minella Choice (The Sun)

This looks tough. MINELLA CHOICE has the potential to be one of the better-handicapped runners on his chase debut and he’s worth risking. Cartonne has less to prove than many, while Martalmix’jac delivered a notable effort here two weeks ago and would have been very tempting but for Alex Edwards not being aboard for the first time.

15:10 Newbury – Martator (Telegraph)

The most interesting one for the longer term is low-mileage 6yo Etalon, who ended last season with a creditable fourth in a hot handicap hurdle. However, he lacks a recent run and any chasing/pointing experience so the best option today could be MARTATOR. Venetia Williams’ runner is 0-6 in Britain but his latest run suggested he might be ready to exploit some considerable help from the handicapper and it could be significant that the cheekpieces he wore regularly in France are recalled. Mr Grey Sky and Gallic Geordie arrive in good form and should also feature.
