12:20 Ballybeg Boss

Yellow Jacket made a solid start to his chasing career when second on heavy ground in March but preference is for his very unexposed stablemate BALLYBEG BOSS, who won a small-field Irish point in April 2022 and looked quite promising during his first season under rules.

This chase/handicap debut comes after a 261-day absence but he could turn out to be too good for this grade. Valirann Gold drops back to a more suitable trip here and is also considered.

12:55 Horacio Apples

This is quite a significant drop in grade for HORACIO APPLES (NAP), who was right in the thick of things for a long way on heavy ground at Wetherby last month and is now below the mark from which he won over hurdles here in February.

Fakir seemed to have turned a corner when second at Sedgefied in October but he has become unreliable and a bigger threat to the selection may come from Henry Gray, who did not run badly on his seasonal/chase debut.

      13:30 Hold That Taught

The suggestion is HOLD THAT TAUGHT, who still looks well handicapped after a 3lb rise for last month’s Ascot win and ought to be at least as effective on today’s slower ground. First Lord De Cuet is effective on heavy going and feared most. Yes Indeed should also feature but is a tricky horse to win with.

      14:05 Shallow River

His stamina heads into unknown territory today but SHALLOW RIVER went down fighting in a better race than this at Carlisle six weeks ago and gets the nod ahead of Chris Cool, who beat two next-time-out winners when switched back to hurdling for last month’s seasonal debut. Astronomic View moves up in trip after a good effort on his handicap debut and is next on the list.

      14:35 Classic Lord

The one with least to prove is CLASSIC LORD, who comes here after a fairly comfortable win on heavy ground at Fontwell last month, albeit in a race that lacked depth. Irish point winner Just Gino makes his rules debut here and is feared most, while Golden Ambition may reward each-way support.

        • 15:10 Mullins Cross

She has a modest strike-rate but MULLINS CROSS has posted some pretty good efforts on slow ground in recent months and might be the answer. Whitehaven may have needed his recent Sedgefileld run and is second choice, while Rolypolymoly will be feared if strong in the betting before today’s stable debut.

          15:42 Grand Albert

Guard The Moon was nicely in command in the closing stages of a small-field C&D event two weeks ago but this might go to GRAND ALBERT, who changed hands for a six-figure sum after his wide-margin Irish point win in April.
