11:30 – Heart Wood

HEART WOOD returned from 12 months off with an encouraging second over this course and distance a few weeks ago, sticking to his task well to pass the post less than three lengths behind the classy Grangeclare West. That form sets a useful standard in this line-up and Heart Wood is fancied to take another step forward to get off the mark for Henry de Bromhead, who has won recent editions of this race with the likes of A Plus Tard (2018) and Journey With Me (2022).

12:00 – Money Heist

MONEY HEIST shaped as if retaining all his ability after 13 months off when finishing fourth in a handicap hurdle at Cork last time, leaving the impression he’d improve for the outing. Though still a maiden after three starts over fences, he appeals as the type to do better in handicaps and a mark of 97 is unlikely to prove beyond him somewhere down the line. Today could well be the day now tried in cheekpieces and back down in trip.

12:35 – Cut the Rope

CUT THE ROPE was no match for the winner at Gowran Park last time, but he was still in the process of showing improved form when he fell at the last, looking booked for a clear second at the time of his departure. Runner-up on his hurdling debut at Limerick a few weeks earlier, he clearly has the ability to win an ordinary maiden hurdle and this one looks a good opportunity for him to open his account if cutting out the jumping errors.

13:10 – Brennus Lescribaa

BRENNUS LESCRIBAA has shown fair form in two starts over hurdles to date, finishing fourth in big-field maidens at Down Royal and Punchestown a couple of weeks apart. Admittedly, he was beaten a long way on both occasions, but this looks a much weaker contest on paper and there’s a good chance he won’t need to improve to gain his first win for the red-hot Gordon Elliott yard.

13:45 – Only By Night

ONLY BY NIGHT has shown useful form in winning both her starts in bumpers since joining Gavin Cromwell, first making a successful start for the yard at Limerick in October and then taking another step forward to follow up in a listed mares’ event at Navan a few weeks ago. There is plenty of substance to this mares’ maiden hurdle with several top yards represented, but Only By Night is potentially a class above her rivals judged on that bumper form and she should be able to make a winning debut in this sphere on her way to bigger and better things.

14:20 – Banada Bridge

BANADA BRIDGE wasn’t seen to best effect when last seen finishing fifth at Wexford a few weeks ago, most likely at a disadvantage in being kept towards the inside throughout. He is better judged on the form he’d shown previously when hitting the frame in a couple of big-field handicaps, including when beaten just half a length at Fairyhouse in October. That was a career-best effort and he can line up from the same mark today having been dropped 2lb since his Wexford run.

14:55 – Young Fitzy

YOUNG FITZY produced his best effort of the season when tried in cheekpieces in a big-field handicap hurdle at Limerick last month, leading briefly at the second last before his effort flattened out, ultimately passing the post six and a half lengths behind the winner. That was a step back in the right direction and he’s worth a chance to build on that run from what remains a career-low mark, fully 11 lb lower than when gaining his most recent win over hurdles in October 2021.

15:30 – Wingmen

WINGMEN should take plenty of beating on his Rules debut having impressed when winning his sole start in Irish points by 12 lengths. He was bought for £250,000 just a few days after that win and has since joined Gordon Elliott, who has introduced several exciting newcomers in recent weeks. This horse looks another and it will be disappointing if he can’t make a successful debut in a bumper where those with previous experience haven’t shown much.
