We have a bumper card of racing on ITV this weekend and there are some real stars on display. We also have racing up at Aintree and it’s fantastic to have the Becher Chase over the National fences.

13:15 Sandown – Constitution Hill  non runner

It’s good news for racing fans going to Sandown to be able to see CONSTITUTION HILL strutting his stuff. He is a perfect two from two at the track and that is a positive because the ground in the straight can get very testing, but he does not mind it at all.

Shishkin is the interesting one. He is second top-rated and I can see him running a big race. The ground is the obvious concern but I can see him finishing second to his stablemate. I’m looking at Constitution Hill to win by 6 lengths.

13:30 Aintree – Heltenham

You may have to watch this contest with your hands over your eyes as HELTENHAM makes some howlers on the way round. He is talented but can walk through a fence. He is still well treated, though, and I’m going to take a punt on him.

13:50 Sandown – JPR One

How cruel is this game sometimes? JPR ONE had the race in the bag at Cheltenham last time when making a mistake at the last losing his jockey in the process. He can get his compensation here.

14:05 Aintree – Percussion

Laura Morgan has done a great job with some of her runners and it would be fitting for her to win this big prize. PERCUSSION is proven over fences and stays well. Carrying only 10st 2lbs has to be a good thing on this ground.

14:25 Sandown – Arqoob

I have gone against the favourites here as I feel the Lucy Wadham-trained ARQOOB is better value. He ran very well at the track in April and then won nicely last time out. You can’t underestimate his course form. Jilaijone could be an each-way play.

14:40 Aintree – Le Fauve

Max Of Stars has been a great horse for Ollie Pears and sets the standard but I can’t help but feel something will pop up and beat him. LE FAUVE has come from France having finished second to a horse who came out and won at Compiegne next time. He will be ready for Aintree.

15:00 Sandown – Jonbon

It’s very hard to see past JONBON. Edwardstone is the obvious danger having run well behind him last time and winning this contest last season. If you don’t fancy the long odds about Jonbon a forecast may be the answer. Haddex Des Obeaux will win a big race and it’s a shame there is not more top level two mile handicaps for him.

15:15 Aintree – Benson

This quirky character BENSON is tailor-made for the long run in at this track. He went chasing last time when his saddle slipped but he still ran a good race. Going back over the smaller obstacles will be more up his street and I’d be looking for him to finish the race strongly. Even if you’re in fourth place, jumping the last, he has a knack of sprinting home.

15:35 Sandown – Certainly Red

The weird thing about CERTAINLY RED is that he jumps badly left, however, he loves going right-handed. I feel his comeback run was good and this test going slower will be more up his street.

Beauport is the danger. He has lost his confidence a little and his run at Ascot is a sure sign of that. Going a little slower will help him.
