The Racing Post boffins have studied the form and reckon Hortzadar in the 15:45 looks like a player.

15:10 Bobby Shaftoe

Market strength behind handicap newcomer Delta Legend would be interesting with his big step back up in trip.

However, as things stand, it looks a more solid option to row in again with the four-time Newcastle all weather (AW) winner BOBBY SHAFTOE, who mowed down Purple Gown (second choice) over same course and distance (C&D) three weeks ago. Restorer was third in that race and is on the shortlist.

15:45 Hortzadar

Most of these have major questions to answer but HORTZADAR and Star Shield can run well again following their first and second in a C&D clash five weeks ago when they were last seen.

That was Hortzadar’s first attempt on the AW, so he may be able to extend his resurgence now that he has that outing under his belt. Trais Fluors looks the other principal. Open Choice is the dark horse in this line-up.

    16:15 Meleki

Parish Councillor beat a good horse here in February but his third start has been a long time coming. He’s still second choice, but MELEKI appeals as the one to be with on this drop back in distance. Bluebottle Blue, who was behind the selection last time, may perk up in the cheekpieces. Ribble Rouser and Rooska have similar profiles in that they continue to run well but in defeat.

    16:45 Sir Maxi

A competitive race in which the vote goes to SIR MAXI, who has a striking record on AW and made it two wins from his last three starts when scoring over C&D last month. Second choice is Chifa, who was as good as ever with his emphatic win at Kempton and still looks on a workable mark.

The very lightly raced 3yo Souffionne looks interesting on his handicap debut, while Abbey’s Dream also enters the reckoning along with Cold Stare, who was an eyecatcher behind the selection here last time.

    17:15 Charencey (NAP)

Power Of Darkness is much respected on this rare appearance down at Class 5 level, while it wouldn’t be a surprise to see last month’s C&D winner Star Zinc make an impact back here.

Jahidin, another C&D winner, is worth a second look as is Magical Max following his close second here last time, but there may still be more to come from the progressive CHARENCEY (NAP) after getting off the mark over 6f here last time. The return to this trip shouldn’t be an issue.

      • 17:45 Panama City

The consistent Reclaim Victory is more than likely to run her race once again, while there may be more to come from the unexposed Brazen Rascal up in trip.

However, the vote goes to PANAMA CITY who got the better of a last-time-out winner over C&D last time out and may still have more to offer on this surface. Mercurius Power and Pallas Lord are others worth a second look.

        18:15 Sports Coach

A market move for any of the newcomers should be noted, but this may be between old rivals Cast No Shadow and SPORTS COACH. The former came out a length to the good when they were second and third respectively over C&D last month, but he was having his third outing whereas the latter was making his debut.

With the run under his belt, there must be a good chance he can reverse the form. Navan winner Photosynthesis is also respected on his debut for Tom Clover.

        18:45 Night On Earth

Although all of his 13 wins have come over further Treacherous is high on the list at this level having run so well over C&D the last twice, while there may be more to come on the surface from last month’s C&D winner Zuffalo.

The consistent Pepsi Cat is another for the shortlist, as is Wasdale on her return to Tapeta. However, the vote goes to another C&D winner in NIGHT ON EARTH who has run well in both starts since returned to the AW and drops into a 0-75 for the very first time.
