11:45 Corbetts Cross

CORBETTS CROSS looked in need of the run after eight months off when finishing third on his chasing debut at Naas three weeks ago, holding every chance entering the final two furlongs before seeming to get tired.

A point winner and useful over hurdles last season, Corbetts Cross has a bright future in this sphere and is fancied to build on the promise of his debut to get off the mark at the second attempt before stepping back up in grade.

12:15 Wheres Frankie

WHERES FRANKIE failed to meet market expectations when last seen finishing fourth over this course and distance in April 2022, but he’d been in rude health prior to that with three straight wins, mixing hurdling and chasing to very good effect.

He clearly hasn’t been the easiest to the train in the interim having missed all of last season, but he’s still only seven and retains the potential to do better if picking up where he left off after 608 days on the sidelines.

12:50 Firefox

FIREFOX has won three bumpers since finishing an eye-catching fourth on his hurdling debut at Navan in November last year, showing a useful level of form in the process.

He justified short odds with the minimum of fuss when returning from seven months off at Down Royal last time, drawing clear in the closing stages to win by five and a half lengths, and the fact he has race fitness on his side could just give him the edge here over a few interesting hurdling debutants.

13:25 Waterford Whispers

WATERFORD WHISPERS contested a maiden hurdle at this course in April which has worked out well and he confirmed the promise of that effort after seven months off when getting off the mark at Galway last time, staying on well to land the spoils by a length and a half in comfortable fashion.

He looks potentially useful and is very much one to be interested in with the longer trip today expected to eke out more improvement.

14:00 Fighting Fit

FIGHTING FIT has looked an improved performer in winning his last two starts, first causing an upset at Galway in August and then defying a 7lb rise in the weights to follow up at Listowel in September.

He was well on top at the finish on the last occasion, hitting the front approaching two out and quickly asserting from there to win by a length and a half. This will be his toughest test yet up another 10lb, but he’s clearly going the right way and it will be no surprise if he proves equal to the task in his hat-trick bid.

14:35 Risk Belle

RISK BELLE ran to a useful level when winning a competitive handicap at this course in April, eventually being awarded the race by the stewards having been hampered by the first past the post on the run-in.

That form reads well in the context of this race – Risk Belle is 7lb clear of the field on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings – so it appears unlikely that she’ll need to improve to take the step up in grade in her stride after seven months off.

15:10 Zanndabad

ZANNDABAD was an expensive purchase out of Francis-Henri Graffard’s yard having shown useful form on the Flat in France, notably finishing third in a listed race at Lyon in November 2022.

Admittedly, he failed to scale the same heights in three starts over hurdles last season, but there’s every chance he’ll leave those efforts behind now making the switch to handicaps. He’s certainly in good hands with Tony Martin and there should be a race like this in him from a mark of 113.

15:40 Jalon Doudairies

JALON DOUDAIRIES could be the way to go in the concluding bumper for Gordon Elliott, who won this race 12 months ago with the talented Doctor Bravo.

Those with previous experience under Rules set a pretty low bar and Jalon Doudairies certainly has plenty to recommend him on paper having been bought for £420,000 after winning his sole outing in Irish points.
