11:49 – HEAD ON

If Snowy Evening jumps better than he did when placed in his first two chases and handles today’s faster ground, he could be hard to beat here. However, preference is for HEAD ON, who is still on a good mark after running well in defeat over 3m here a fortnight ago and is sure to be suited by today’s condition.

12:21 – PERSONAL AMBITION

Fairly useful Flat-racer Sea Grey has joined a good stable for his hurdling career and has possibilities if he takes to this game but it’s difficult to oppose PERSONAL AMBITION, who won in good style at Warwick last month and can overcome a penalty. Hawkseye View may reward each-way support.

12:56 – MISTRAL BLUE

Fergal O’Brien’s MISTRAL BLUE earns marginal preference in what is an open race for a novices’ hurdle. While her bumper efforts were no more than okay, she’s bred to do better over hurdles over this longer distance. Dontyawantme is second choice after her promising return at Wetherby, while After Many Days (nice long-term prospect), Brief Statement and Villainess are also respected.

    13:31 – BALLYBREEZE

It is over fences that BALLYBREEZE has raised his profile but he’s handicapped accordingly and it could be that he’s a much better horse now than when previously seen in this discipline. A few of Jonjo O’Neill’s have left their first runs of the season behind and class act Soaring Glory is feared most. Mr Freedom is unlikely to be far away despite his tough mark.

    14:06 – GENERAL OFFICER

Not many improve after leaving Dan Skelton but William Of York was in smashing form over hurdles once front-running tactics were adopted and he’s feared, as is game Hereford winner School Days Over (second choice). Technology and Joe Dadancer should also feature if taking to fences but GENERAL OFFICER (nap) impressed with his jumping when the clear runner-up behind a talented winner at Aintree, and going further this afternoon looks a good move.

    14:41 – FOSTER’SISLAND

Last-time-out winner Matchless could still have more to offer over hurdles if today’s step up in trip suits but the suggestion is FOSTER’SISLAND, who looked in excellent nick when slamming a dual subsequent winner on his final start last season and ran well until his stamina ebbed away over a stiff 2m4f on soft ground last month. Peking Rose and/or Gaelik Coast will be dangerous if back in form after their breaks.

    15:16 – CAUSTIC

Two strong candidates finished second on their first outings and now reappear with tongue-straps fitted. Gore Point is much respected after a promising start at Ludlow, but marginal preference is for the Owen Burrows-trained CAUSTIC who shaped well in a big field at Exeter and now moves up in distance. Others to consider include Rockola and Miss Mink, third and sixth respectively on their debuts at Stratford, and the well-bred newcomer Opera King.
