12:15 – Recoup

RECOUP had some fairly useful form on the Flat for Andre Fabre in France and made the perfect start over hurdles for these connections at Ludlow last month. He looked a useful prospect, travelling well and produced to challenge at the final flight, pulling clear of the remainder with a next-time-out winner. He has been placed here and has excellent claims of following up. What A Johnny and Coup de Coeur can battle it out for minor honours.

12:50 – Onestepatatime

ONESTEPATATIME enhanced her excellent record over this course and distance when recording a third win last month, showing the benefit of a recent spin over hurdles and going with plenty more zest with cheekpieces refitted. She also displayed a good attitude, rallying to go into the lead close home, and she may be able to defy the handicapper (4 lb higher) once again at her favoured venue. Storm Tiger is more than capable off his mark and will be a danger if ready to roll on his reappearance.

13:20 – Harper Valley

HARPER VALLEY improved with each start over hurdles earlier in the year, strong in the betting when opening his account at the fourth attempt in a novice hurdle at Hexham in May. He didn’t need to progress much on what he’d already shown, but he travelled and jumped fluently and had more in hand than the official margin suggests. Harper Valley has been allotted what appears to be a fair opening mark and he is a horse to remain positive about now handicapping. Ashington competes below a mark of 120 for the first time in handicap hurdles and is another who could have a say.

13:50 – Take Centre Stage

TAKE CENTRE STAGE remains a maiden, but he proved a different proposition sent chasing for the first time, shaping like the best horse at the weights but paying for an overly-aggressive ride in the closing stages. He was around four lengths clear of the chasing pack and 15 lengths clear of the eventual winner jumping two out and began to tie up soon after, blundering the last and understandably finishing tired. Take Centre Stage goes in first-time cheekpieces now and is taken to build on his promising start over fences. Guillaume for Donald McCain and Six One Nine head up the dangers.

14:20 – For Three

FOR THREE is on a lengthy losing run which stretches back to July 2021, but he attracted strong support and took a big step back in the right direction when finishing runner-up on his debut for this yard over course and distance earlier this month. He travelled through that race like a well-treated horse from his much-reduced mark, making rapid headway and leading on the bridle two from home and he was only headed close home. For Three is 4 lb higher now but remains very well treated on old form and he is fancied to go one place better. Last-time-out winners El Jefe and Mr Rumbalicious head the opposition.

14:50 – Ballybeg Boss

The majority of these hold few secrets from the handicapper, but ex-pointer BALLYBEG BOSS, who displayed promise over hurdles last term, looks the type to do better in this sphere and could be the way to go on his return to action and stepping back up in trip. Zuckerberg returned with a good second over course and distance three weeks ago and a repeat gives him claims, while Beat The Edge and Methusalar are also worth a look.

15:20 – Deep Strato

Point recruit DEEP STRATO gets the nod to make a winning start for the Donald McCain and Brian Hughes combination. He makes appeal on paper and is narrowly preferred to Diamond Geezer trained by Olly Murphy, has a good 21% strike-rate in bumpers in the last five seasons so his newcomer rates a likely threat, while Vanilla Dancer showed a fair level of ability when third on her debut over course and distance.
