There are doubts over all of the runners for one reason or another. Tentative preference is for MISS DOLLY ROCKER, who has raced over longer trips this year but is tremendously consistent and holds a good chance in this grade provided she copes with the return to 1m.
Big Bear Hug (second choice) has seemed best on deep turf ground but should be dangerous if backing up her latest piece of form, while Arctician has never won over 1m but enters calculations on his most recent effort. Outrace has a wide draw and Port Erin was disappointing last time but they are shortlist material in other respects.
Preference is for I LOVE PARIS, who represents last year’s winning yard and should progress now she’s qualified for a mark. Royal Tapestry, the only previous winner in the field, is second choice ahead of New Chelsea who remains of interest. Most of the other runners can also be viewed positively.
Tangled Up In Blue has a squeak at the weights but the pair to appeal most are impressive Chelmsford winner Sommelier and ALFA KELLENIC. The selection ran well for third on her debut, when doing a lot wrong, and she should be more streetwise with that run behind her.
Andrew Balding’s 2yos often take significant steps forward from their debut effort so it wouldn’t be wise to rule out a big run from Le Geyt, who was down the field at Salisbury in September but in a warm race and having looked clueless for much of the contest.
Such improvement will be required, however, with State Flag, Wadacre Icarus, Bravo Zulu, Ezra Cee (second choice) and CHARACTER TESTING having all displayed promise. Marginal preference is for Character Testing who went so close over same course and distance (C&D) on his racecourse debut.
Notre Belle Bete is useful on all weather (AW) and can go well fresh so he’s high on the list despite the absence of cheekpieces. Several others have claims, with Choisya (second choice) and SYMBOL OF LIGHT perhaps the pair to focus on.
The selection ran well after a long absence on his stable debut and it’s easy to excuse a heavy defeat on slow ground since. He remains capable of better on AW.
Carzola could revive back on AW, while Andaleep and Perseus Way are well handicapped and can be involved if their stamina holds out. Mostly Sunny and C’Mon Kenny (second choice) are high on the list but DUKE OF OXFORD could step up now his stamina is more fully tested and he gets the vote in a competitive race.
A wide-open handicap. The unexposed pair So Glorious and Jesse Luc are both expected to show more now handicapping and the latter may reverse Wolverhampton placings from a more favourable draw. Stuart Williams has two live candidates in Harry The Haggler and Got No Dollars, while Vitalline could show up more prominently back down in distance.
SPLIT ELEVENS isn’t straightforward but he’s dangerous at the right level and a 2lb drop for his latest effort at Wolverhampton can see him resume winning ways.
Upped further in distance with the hood retained, HAZEL BEAR (NAP) could well open her account. Showlan Spirit, a similar type, is second choice ahead of Kemerton who looks open to improvement back here. Fravanco and Silver Atom complete the shortlist.
Back down in distance, VELVET VULCAN is taken to record a first success. Trackman (second choice) and Dotties Star are other maidens who bring promising claims, while well-handicapped Largo Bay is another suggestion for the shortlist. A few others also have possibilities.
