Mister Coffey is a second season novice and he ran in a good few big races last year but I’m with GOOD RISK AT ALL for Sam Thomas. It took a long time for the penny to drop with him over hurdles but he beat Alaphilippe when he won last time out at Carlisle and looked good. He could be the value pick.
Stage Star and THE REAL WHACKER set the standard in the Paddy Power Gold Cup. The latter is a great jumper and if he gets into a rhythm, he has a great chance. He also has the better form compared to the Paul Nicholls runner.
It looks between the two and if The Real Whacker gets across the track in the first four furlongs, he could be the one to beat.
My only concern for him would be coming down in trip but if he gets into a good rhythm jumping, and he can, then I think he’ll go well. Going from the old course to the new course should suit him well too. I’ll chance The Real Whacker.
The trip will suit Chantry House, I’m not sure about Shan Blue and I’ve landed on BUDDY ONE. He’s risen in the weights but he’s improving and his Martin Pipe run was brilliant. He didn’t have much of a summer break as he’d a couple of runs but that’ll stand to him.
He won in Galway last time out off a mark of 138 and although he’s up to 147 now, he has age on his side and he’s physically improving. I don’t want to be against him. He’s the worthy favourite.
LONDONOFFICECALLIN is my pick at a decent price. He did well on the Flat racing over the summer and he’s also shown promise over hurdles, winning at Punchestown in June at a Down Royal shortly after.
He won on his last start over hurdles at Killarney and he’s not badly treated off a mark of 111. He’s well ahead of the handicapper so I can’t be against him.
