MASQUE OF ANARCHY hasn’t been at his best since winning at Pontefract in May but he has fallen in the weights and offered some encouragement last time at Wolverhampton where he shaped as if he’d be better for the run after his first start in eight weeks.
Masque of Anarchy is now 5lb below his last winning mark, drops in grade and is fitted with a visor for the first time, so it would be little surprise were he to bounce back.
MAHATO overcame inexperience to make a winning debut at Windsor last month, ultimately scoring in taking fashion and marking himself out as a good prospect.
Mahato sets a good standard based on that display and his strength at the finish suggests he should appreciate this step up in trip, so he stands out as the one to beat under a penalty.
FOURONEOHFEVER comes from a good family – his dam is a sibling of high-class pair Bated Breath and Cityscape – and he shaped with promise when third at Wolverhampton on debut 12 days ago, finishing behind a couple of expensive purchases but pulling a long way clear of the rest.
Fouroneohfever is entitled to progress with that experience under his belt and gets the vote to get off the mark here.
This looks like a good opportunity for SILVRETTA to get off the mark. She was a beaten odds-on favourite at Windsor on her latest start but she still produced a creditable effort and pulled a long way clear of the rest. She has shown fairly useful form in finishing runner-up on her last three starts and should prove difficult to beat if running to a similar level.
SOLRAY has made a promising start to his career and he struck at the third attempt when making a successful all-weather debut over this course and distance in September. Solray travelled well before quickly drawing four lengths clear and winning with loads in hand. He remains capable of better and an opening BHA mark of 78 could underestimate him.
SANDRET shaped with promise when runner-up over this course and distance on his return from a four-month layoff a couple of weeks ago, doing well to finish second after meeting trouble inside the final couple of furlongs when making headway from the rear in a steadily-run race.
Sandret has edged up only 1lb for that effort which means he is only 1lb above his last winning mark, a victory which was achieved over this course and distance last year.
RATAFIA has been better than ever of late, finally getting off the mark at Redcar last month and then following up in style over this course and distance last week.
Ratafia was suited by being held up in a strongly-run race but the fact he pulled three and a quarter lengths clear underlined that he’s in the form of his life right now. A 5lb penalty for his latest success should not be enough to stop him completing the hat-trick.
WATER OF LEITH has yet to win in 2023 but he shaped as if back in form when mid-division over this course and distance a couple of weeks ago, looking unlucky not to finish closer after being denied a run inside the final furlong.
Water of Leith has dropped another 2lb since his latest effort and is now able to run off a mark 17lb lower than the one he defied over course and distance last October.
SHERDIL is on a losing run of 14 that stretches back to July of last year but he has fallen in the weights and left the impression that he’s ready to capitalise when a close-up third over this course and distance 12 days ago.
Sherdil was only collared close home despite making his move deepest on the track, and he can come out on top here if in similar form.
