12:55 Eceparti
ECEPARTI was in a different league to his rivals when making a successful reappearance at this course last week, hitting the front soon after five out and quickly drawing clear from there to land the spoils by 29 lengths.
That was much more like it following a couple of seasons in the wilderness and it goes without saying that he is potentially very well treated under a 7 lb penalty provided this doesn’t come too soon after just eight days off.
13:30 Tahmuras
TAHMURAS ended last season on a low note with below-par runs at Cheltenham and Aintree, but he’d achieved a useful level of form earlier in the campaign, notably winning the Grade 1 Tolworth Novices’ Hurdle at Sandown. He’s had wind surgery during the summer and it will be very interesting to see how high he can climb over fences this term.
He’s certainly in the right hands with Paul Nicholls and his physique (tall, useful-looking gelding) also points to him making a better chaser.
14:05 Jackpot Dathou
JACKPOT DATHOU showed plenty of ability in three starts in bumpers, still looking a bit rough around the edges when last seen filling the runner-up spot (beaten three lengths) at Taunton in April.
He too has had wind surgery during his subsequent absence and the experience he gained last season should stand him in good stead in his novice campaign over hurdles. He looks potentially useful and winning an ordinary maiden like this should prove a mere formality.
14:40 Captain Wallace
CAPTAIN WALLACE filled the runner-up spot in an Irish point in March and the winner of that race has since followed up in a bumper at Newcastle. Captain Wallace is now based with Sam Thomas having been bought for £60,000 and his useful jumping pedigree suggests he could have a bright future for his new yard.
Thomas certainly has the team in rude health – only two of his last 11 runners have finished out of the frame – and this looks just a weak race for Captain Wallace’s hurdling debut.
15:15 Our Friend Mo
OUR FRIEND MO remains with potential after just three starts over hurdles and could be worth siding with in a wide-open contest.
Admittedly, the form of those efforts was nothing to shout about, finishing well beaten each time, but she starts life in handicaps from a reasonable mark and the longer trip today could eke out more improvement on just her fourth run for Jonjo O’Neill, who has a solid 16% strike rate with handicap hurdling debutants.

15:50 Leading Swoop
LEADING SWOOP showed much-improved form when suffering a narrow reversal at Fontwell in January, keeping on well to pass the post just a short head behind a thriving sort who has won again since.
The first two pulled 12 lengths clear of the remainder and Leading Swoop is only 3 lb higher in the weights today. Still relatively unexposed after just two starts in handicaps, he may yet have more to offer and should be thereabouts again if ready to go after nine months off.
16:25 Jacobin
JACOBIN gets the vote in the finale for Paul Nicholls, who saddles two runners as he seeks a fourth success in this bumper since 2018. Stablemate Mount Gay Run has plenty to recommend him on paper, but it’s potentially signifciant that Harry Cobden sides with Jacobin, a son of the relatively unknown French-based sire Magneticjim.
He must have a bit about him to be carrying the colours of J. P. McManus and it will be interesting to see whether the market speaks in his favour.
