13:30 Ascot – Hermino AA
HERMINO AA really caught the eye last season as an improver and I do think he is one to follow. I’m a little worried that he may not be streetwise enough for this but there’s no doubt in his ability, and the fact that Gary Moore has pitched him in here is enough for me. Passing Well will be a danger and is bound to have been well schooled.
13:50 Wetherby – Luccia
I am a huge fan of this filly LUCCIA and fitness is the only thing, I feel, that might see her beaten. She showed her quality when finishing third in the Grade 1 Poundland Top Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree. She has most to fear from Kateira, trained by Dan Skelton who likes this race. I’m hoping my selection will show her star quality.
14:05 Ascot – Boothill
BOOTHILL is a very strong traveller and was a winner here over this distance last season. He also won over the minimum trip at Kempton on soft ground. To top it all off he’s also a good jumper and gets the vote in this good race.
14:25 Wetherby – Dashel Drasher
One of the great things about this season so far has been the resurgence of the Philip Hobbs and Johnson White horses, they’re a great bunch and nobody would begrudge them a big success.
Thyme Hill is a delicate horse and I am hoping this can be a good year for him but I worry this race will turn into a slog and, for that reason, I am going for a heavyweight bruiser in DASHEL DRASHER who just never knows when he’s beaten.
15:00 Wetherby – Bravemansgame
BRAVEMANSGAME has proved his win in the King George was no fluke when battling really well in the Gold Cup to finish a good second to Galopin Des Champs at the Festival. There’s no doubting his class and he bounded around here last season.
With Ahoy Senor always looking like he is better for a run, it is hard to look past Bravemansgame.

15:15 Ascot – Camprond (each-way)
With the Hobbs & Johnson White team in good form it might be that this horse CAMPROND causes a bit of a surprise. He could have won the Coral at Cheltenham but got a bit lonely. He is still only 4lbs higher than when winning a very competitive race at Punchestown so looks well worth a go each-way.
15:30 Wetherby – Windtothelightning
Ollie Greenall has made a great fist of things since going training and his filly WINDTOTHELIGHTNING is on the up so I am taking a punt on her coming forward from last season. She could also have more improvement to come on the softer stuff as she has raced mainly on decent ground up until now.
15:45 Ascot – Eldorado Allen
ELDORADO ALLEN was beaten three lengths in the Charlie Hall on his first run of last season. His next run was a second in a Grade 1 at Haydock and he was then fourth in the King George.
This is the class act in the race and it would be folly to ignore him off this mark. Freddie Gingell has some really good rides and this will be making really good use of his 7lb claim.
