A market check is advised regarding Mick Appleby’s Scandinavian import Le Rouge Chinois and the Gosdens’ AW/handicap debutant Governor Of India, but the vote goes to ELSHAAMEQ (nap) who came from well back to get off the mark at Chelmsford last time. He is just 2lb higher and remains unexposed for a 4yo. Loom Large, who had the selection behind when winning over C&D this month, is another to consider, as are the unexposed Bustaam, course specialist Broctune Red and Blue Yonder.
Quite an open nursery. I’M SPARTACUS seems to run this track particularly well and was good value for his latest win. Stepping up to 7f is unlikely to trouble him. Never Sell could be an interesting handicap debutant now gelded but second choice is Arantes Nascimento who brings momentum into nurseries.
There are a few in here who could improve now switched to this surface, such as Monks Dream, Askim and Bumblebee Bullett, while Gundogan would be a player if reverting to the form of his debut effort. However, BELLASIO has less to prove having finished runner-up on his debut over 7f here last month. The time was modest, but dropping a furlong looks to be in his favour given how keen he was first time.
Last year’s winner Vindobala carries risks having refused to race on a couple of occasions, but she is capable if things fall right. However, URBAN ROAD looks a more solid option having gained his last two successes over C&D, while the returning visor may be another positive. Cusack should again go well if getting a good pace to aim at, while the unexposed Pink Parfait and My Honey B are others to keep an eye on.
Not many of these look solid. Ledger has one piece of form which would give him a chance on stable debut were he to repeat it, but C&D winner ANNALEE LASS looks the one to beat if ready to go after three months off. Antagonize could be given a serious chance on his effort over C&D on his penultimate start and looks the main alternative.
Copper Mountain is one of the likelier winners having shown a return to form over C&D last time, as is Calleveryoneuknow after her solid third at Lingfield on Friday. However, the vote goes to triple course winner ROYAL PROSPECT who only found one too good over C&D on his penultimate start. Two Rivers and Indian Outlaw are others to keep an eye on.
Leadman is the one to beat on his 2yo efforts but the race isn’t all about form when there’s an absence of nearly 15 months to consider. The market should give an idea regarding expectations for him but DOLCE COURAGE looked promising when overcoming difficulties to win at Southwell and he may be able to give the weight away. The others with form look best left alone until going handicapping and the newcomer Crown Board is preferred for third place.
A few of these lurk on dangerous marks if bouncing back to form but it’s a big ‘if’ for Misty Blues, while Asadjumeirah has been well treated for some time and hasn’t been able to capitalise. Water Of Leith is better than he showed last time but BELLA KOPELLA was making late headway in a 5f handicap that has worked out well earlier in the month and today’s extra furlong can see her register a third course success.
The excellent Blackcurrent continues in fine form and looks sure to go well again but a lot went wrong for SYDNEY BAY on his debut for a new yard here yet he still managed to get the better of Kasino. He should still be well treated off just a 2lb higher mark and gets the vote, although Brother Dave, should come on for his recent handicap debut after a break and take another step forward, while Lupset Flossy Pop and Eyes also enter the reckoning on recent efforts.
