ZINCHENKO showed much-improved form when finishing fourth on his final qualifying run at Kempton 17 days ago, sticking to his task well to be beaten only four lengths behind a useful prospect. The way he shaped there suggests the step up to a mile today will be right up his street and he starts life in nurseries on a fair mark.
FAAYZAH stepped up on his debut effort when filling the runner-up spot at Thirsk last month, travelling well at the head of affairs and rallying gamely once headed to pass the post just a length behind the winner. That form comfortably sets the standard in this line-up and it looks an excellent opportunity for him to open his account, with further progress likely on just his third start.
PHOENIX PASSION left his previous form behind to get off the mark on his nursery debut at Yarmouth 18 days ago, digging deep under pressure to land the spoils by half a length. The manner of that victory suggests he was full value for a 4 lb rise in the weights and he will take plenty of beating in his follow-up bid if the longer trip can eke out a bit more improvement.
DREAM OF MISCHIEF very much caught the eye when finishing third at Lingfield 13 days ago, passing the post just half a length behind the winner and leaving the impression he might have won if he’d made his effort a bit sooner. He was still on the bridle entering the straight but simply had too much to do, impressing with the way he came home to be nearest at the finish. He is only 1 lb higher in the weights today and one to be interested in again as he seeks a second course-and-distance win of the campaign.
SILVRETTA presumably hasn’t been the easiest to train, but she shaped well after 12 months off when filling the runner-up spot at Kempton three weeks ago, only weakening late on having raced freely at the head of affairs. Beaten just a length at the line, she should strip fitter for the run and it will be disappointing if she can’t win an ordinary maiden like given her useful pedigree.
WESTERN STARS has improved with every run since joining the Jim Boyle stable and there was plenty to like about his victory at Haydock 10 days ago, staying on well to win by half a length. This will be tougher from a 2 lb higher mark, but he retains plenty of handicapping scope judged on the pick of his form and it looks like his new yard has found the key to him now.
GEELONG has taken a form up a notch on his last two starts on the all-weather, first winning by a wide margin at Kempton and then running well again under a 6 lb penalty when finding one too good at Newcastle. Unlike a few of today’s rivals, he clearly arrives in good order and there is no reason why he shouldn’t put up another bold show following a further 2 lb rise in the weights.
BIG BARD wasn’t seen to best effect when last seen finishing seventh at Bath in August, never threatening to get involved having raced wider than ideal. He’s been a good break since and is worth another chance to bring up his fourth success of the season. Only 2 lb above his last winning mark, he struck over this course and distance back in April and was runner-up in this race last year, too.
