The withdrawal of God’s Window presents HOUSTONN with an excellent opportunity to get off the mark. Houstonn was down the field in a decent maiden at Newbury on debut but showed much-improved form to go close over this course and distance (C&D) last month, only just failing to beat a rare Aidan O’Brien runner at the course with the pair finishing clear.
That form has been boosted by the third and fourth winning next time and Houstonn sets a high standard for his rivals to aim at.
JOYCEAN WAY, a half-brother to the smart Group 2 winner Sacred, was held back by inexperience on debut at Yarmouth a couple of weeks ago but he shaped with promise, making some late headway. Joycean Way should do better with that outing under his belt and the way he kept on at Yarmouth suggests he’ll be suited by the extra furlong here.
QIRAT boasts an excellent pedigree as he’s by Showcasing and out of the Group 1 winner Emulous, which makes him a half-brother to three winners including the smart Bluestocking. Qirat, a strong colt, impressed in appearance ahead of his debut at Newmarket in August and also shaped well to finish a close-up third in that six-furlong maiden.
He then built on that promise to land the odds in a seven-furlong novice at Kempton a couple of weeks later, proving strong at the finish over the longer trip. He was well on top at the finish there and, with more to come, he looks up to defying a penalty.
HIGH HANDED comes from a good family – she’s a half-sister to the Group 1 winner Lillie Langtry – and she showed plenty to work with when fourth in a decent race of its type on debut at Kempton, despite being sent off at a big price.
She proved bitterly disappointing and beat only one rival home next time, but she was found to be in season so it’s perhaps best to overlook the effort and give her another chance to build on her debut promise, for all there are some interesting newcomers in opposition here.
SOLAR ACLAIM created a good impression when making a winning start over this C&D last month, doing well to overcome trouble in running to prevail.
Solar Aclaim was going well when he had to wait for a gap over two furlongs out but he made good headway and led inside the final 100 yards to score by a neck without being asked for maximum effort. He should improve for that experience and looks the one to side with.

TIRIAC was disappointing earlier in the campaign and there wasn’t an immediate improvement on his return from a 12-week break and breathing operation at Chepstow in August. However, he bounced back to form when runner-up at Goodwood last week and only lost out by a neck after being collared close home.
He is able to run off the same mark here but is due to be 3lb higher in future, so he is clearly on a competitive mark and ought to give a good account now back in form.
BATTISTA has been a beaten favourite on both starts in handicaps but he is gradually going the right way and could still have more to offer so is worth persevering with. He still looked a bit rough around the edges when third at Yarmouth last time, running green when trying to make headway a couple of furlongs out, but the way he travels suggests there’s more to come.
MILITARY TYCOON improved on his previous effort when tackling a mile and a half for the first time at Newcastle on his penultimate start, sticking to his task without ever looking like catching a rival who got first run. He then ran to a similar level when fifth in an interesting event at Ascot, leaving the impression that a further step up in trip could eke out some extra improvement.
He tackles a longer trip here on his return from a couple of months off, and Oisin Murphy is a positive jockey booking.
