Ayr Betting Tips:
HORTZADAR returned to form with a comfortable win over this course and distance last time, finally taking advantage of his reduced mark. He perhaps isn’t an obvious type to follow up considering that was his first victory since April 2022, but he retains plenty of handicapping scope up 3lb and there should be more races to be won with him at this lowly level if he can hold his form together.
GOLDEN STRIKE shaped well amidst greenness when finishing a close-up third on his debut at Pontefract a couple of weeks ago, leaving the impression he’d have given the first two more to think about with a clear run. He showed more than enough ability to suggest he can win an ordinary maiden and this looks a good opportunity with further progress on the cards.
STAR START has been a model of consistency for Rebecca Menzies and his most recent win at Beverley was his third of the campaign having also hit the frame on five other occasions. Crucially, he escapes a penalty for his Beverley success, when proving his effectiveness on soft ground, too, so there is no reason why he shouldn’t go well again.
AUTUMN FESTIVAL justified strong support when getting off the mark for the year at Beverley last week, showing a willing attitude in first-time cheekpieces to make it 3-5 at that track. This will be tougher under a 5lb penalty, but he won from higher marks when on a roll last term and another bold bid seems assured if the headgear continues to work its magic.
JKR COBBLER came up short when bidding for his fourth straight victory over this course and distance last time, but that was still a career-best effort to be beaten just a short head and a head in a very tight finish. He’s up another 1lb in the weights today, but his consistent profile counts for a lot at this sort of level and a fourth win of the season should be his sooner rather than later.

ALPINE SIERRA has generally struggled since a promising start to life with the Jim Goldie yard, but he’s looked more like himself on his last couple of starts. His latest fifth at this course, when beaten less than a length, was certainly a step back in the right direction, while it’s worth pointing out that he’s now 1lb lower in the weights than when scoring on his stable debut here in June.
COLD STARE outdid himself when running twice in two days here at the Ayr Gold Cup meeting, first filling the runner-up spot in the Bronze Cup and then going one place better when stepped up to seven furlongs the following afternoon. Up 2lb and back down in trip, he clearly arrives here in a rich vein of form and remains one to be interested in now that he’s finally got his head back in front.
MICHAELS PLEDGE is still a maiden after eight starts, but he hasn’t run a bad race all year with five straight podium finishes since making the switch to handicaps. A close-up third at Thirsk last time, when pulling clear of the rest, he’s worth another chance to open his account, with further progress not out of the question for a three-year-old who remains low mileage as a stayer.
