MERCIAN WARRIOR chased home Native American in a valuable sales race at the Curragh last time and with that rival heading to ParisLongchamp for the Group One Prix Jean-Luc Lagadere on the same afternoon, looks a bet from an opening of 79 at Epsom.
He does look to have been left in lightly on that run and should be suited by the step up to seven furlongs.
GOLDEN WEST made the perfect start to his career at Newcastle in August and is fancied to follow up in a fascinating conditions race. A 90,000 guineas son of Masar, he looked a useful prospect at Gosforth Park as he came two-and-a-quarter lengths clear of Galactic Charm despite looking to be learning on the job. He’ll relish the extra half furlong here too.
FORCEFUL SPEED is a progressive three-year-old on a roll and looks a solid bet to complete a hat-trick. In good hands, George Boughey’s charge has progressed with each run this season, winning Class 4 handicaps at Pontefract and Redcar on his last two starts.
He’s up three pounds on Sunday but steps up to a mile-and-a-half too and more progress is likely.
NAXOS, like Forceful Speed, represents the in-form Boughey team and looks to hold strong claims of his own. He’s the only obvious pace angle in this contest and could get an easy time of it up front and if that proves the case, he’ll be hard to peg back heading here off the back of a couple of good runs at Newmarket and Wolverhampton.
STRONG IMPACT will be by some way the shortest-priced favourite on this card and looks to have been found a good opening. The daughter of Saxon Warrior has finished second on her last three starts including a very good run behind Born Ruler from a mark of 81 in a Sandown handicap last time.
She’s by some distance the form pick and sets a very fair standard for the newcomers to aim at.
OVERNIGHT OATS finished just behind Shot of Love over course-and-distance last month, but the Muir & Grassick gelding is two pounds better off for that half-length defeat and is narrowly fancied to turn the tables. Shot of Love made full use of an uncontested lead on that occasion and faces more pressure for the lead on Sunday.
MAN OF EDEN can win the final race of Epsom’s 2023 season. He has shaped as if ahead of his mark on more than one occasion this season and takes a big drop in grade from the Class 2 he contested at Ascot last time. That race wasn’t run to suit either and he will be competitive in this if at the top of his game.
