SPANISH ROCK shaped with encouragement when third over this course and distance on his debut last month, making steady headway when in the clear despite looking green, and he built on that promise to get off the mark at Redcar on his second start.
Spanish Rock showed a likeable attitude to take the gaps when they came and stayed on to lead near the line, getting the verdict by a head. That attitude will stand him in good stead and he can launch a bold bid to defy a penalty.
14:20 Half Moon Rising
HALF MOON RISING went with enthusiasm and offered encouragement when a close-up fourth on his nursery debut at Newcastle last month and he showed improved form when missing out only on the nod at Catterick last weekend.
Half Moon Rising showed a useful turn of foot on that occasion and a 2lb rise in the weights will not prevent him going close if seeing out this longer trip.
14:55 Hurstwood
HURSTWOOD took this six-furlong handicap last season and can bag the prize again off just a 1lb higher mark. Hurstwood, who has three course-and-distance wins to his name, brushed aside a couple of lesser efforts when returning to this venue three weeks ago, losing out by only half a length and a head in third.
He was arguably unlucky not to go close on that occasion as he was forced to switch over a furlong out, but he can gain compensation off the same mark here.
15:30 Brazen Bolt
BRAZEN BOLT has largely been in good order this season and he has run as well as he ever has the last twice. He was unlucky not to finish a bit closer when runner-up at Thirsk on his penultimate start as he was keeping on when hampered close home, and he then went one better back at that venue, making all to score by a length and a half.
He should remain competitive after going up 4lb and will be fresher than those who ran at Ayr last weekend.
16:05 Khabib
KHABIB is still searching for a first win this season but he has dipped below his last winning mark and shaped well when fourth at Redcar last week, fading only late on and leaving the impression that he’d benefit from the drop back to five furlongs.
Khabib has been dropped another 1lb and should give a good account back over his optimum trip.

16:40 Franberri
FRANBERRI, a 200,000 guineas purchase as a yearling in 2021, failed to make it to the course as a two-year-old but showed plenty to work with when runner-up on her belated debut at Yarmouth last month. She was no match for a promising rival but pulled a long way clear of the remainder and the form she showed there is the best on offer.
She should progress with her debut effort under her belt and this looks a good opportunity to get off the mark.
17:15 Pledgeofallegiance
PLEDGEOFALLEGIANCE has been below his best the last twice, but he has had excuses on both occasions and it would be little surprise to see him bounce back after a couple of months off. He possible found the run coming a bit too soon only eight days after his Doncaster win when disappointing under a change of tactics in a strong race at Haydock, and he then did too much too soon when third at Ascot.
He is better judged on what he showed when registering back-to-back handicap victories at Redcar and Doncaster, and he still appeals as being on a fair mark. He should stay two miles and makes appeal against largely exposed older rivals.
