16:55 Genesius

A tricky opener in which a case can be made for a few, namely Silver Nightfall (2-2 at Newcastle), the in-form Unplugged, and the consistent Denis Anthony. However, with regular rider Morgan Cole in the saddle, a chance is taken on Sir Mark Prescott’s GENESIUS in the hope that a short break will serve to rejuvenate, as was the case at Thirsk earlier in the year.

17:30 Sunfyre

Solray should go well switched to the AW and he’s high on the list. Crown Dreams and Moon Flight have offered promise over furher and the former may prove better suited by today’s shorter trip. SUNFYRE might be the answer though. He has a bit to find on the figures but he should get a good pace to aim at and could have more to offer over this trip.

18:00 First Of May

This contest looks notable for a lack of prominent racers, with the out-of-form Unsung Hero the only runner who likes to get on with it. For that reason alone he’s of interest in first-time blinkers but there are some others to note. Asadjumeirah and Pocket The Packet can go well, while Sun Power (second choice) comes here on the back of a course win, but FIRST OF MAY is preferred. S

he looked good at Wolverhampton on her handicap debut and still has the potential to be better than this grade on all weather.

18:30 Elettaria

A weak and very winnable contest. Coral Reef (second choice) should prove competitive in the hands of Hollie Doyle, but a preference is for John Wainwright’s filly ELETTARIA. She appeared to be on a gradual upward curve when reeling in Highland Queen at Carlisle, and can hopefully bounce back from a lesser effort back there (over a mile) subsequently.

19:00 Bernie The Bear

There are reasons to believe that Tees George and Climate Change could prove capable of better, while Malinheadsearovers ran respectably over same course and distance (C&D) last month. However, the safest advice is to stick with the Wolverhampton scorer BERNIE THE BEAR for the prolific Fahey and Orr combination.

19:30 Carlton And Co

Of the three last-time winners perhaps Zapphire can come out on top as she still looked green when hitting the front at Haydock seven weeks ago. Abbey’s Dream and Turquoise Diamond also enter the reckoning though. This could be well run and perhaps CARLTON AND CO, the only older filly in the race, may be able to sweep through from off the pace and enhance her good course record.

20:00 Eldrickjones (NAP)

A cracking race of its type with Irish Flame, Bushfire, Dreamrocker, Star Zinc and Lady Wormsley all having something to recommend them. This may rest between Tuscan and ELDRICKJONES (NAP) though, with both having plummeted down the weights in recent times.

Tuscan met trouble galore at Ayr last week and looks a winner-in-waiting but a wind operation and drop to Class 5 company saw the selection saunter home over 7f here ten days ago and he will be hard to beat under a penalty.

20:30 Phoenix Star

No shortage of pace on here and the pair to appeal most are Basholo and recent C&D winner PHOENIX STAR. The selection still looks fairly treated despite a 4lb rise for that come-from-behind success.
