14:10 Opal Storm

Paul Midgley saddles three runners, each of whom has something to recommend them, but the pair to appeal most are Blazing Hot and OPAL STORM. The former starts out for a yard enjoying a fine season and he’s on the same mark as when going close in this race 12 months ago but Opal Storm is preferred.

She’s found some progress in handicaps the last twice and a good test at a stiff 5f could prompt further improvement.

14:45 Flavour Maker

Roger Varian’s FLAVOUR MAKER should appreciate this stiffer track after running on into second at Windsor and, from a better draw here than the fifth Invincible Navy, he should confirm those placings. Sala Da Ballo commands respect on the strength of last week’s Yarmouth effort.

15:20 Zayina

Magico looks likely to improve for the step up to 1m and is a tempting option but preference is for the filly ZAYINA, who did well to finish fourth on her debut at Beverley last month having been caught wide. Windsor winner Empire Of Art is also respected under a penalty.

15:55 Chriszoff

The three year old CHRISZOFF has improved with each of his five starts, posting three wins in the process, and he’s taken to land another one today. The unexposed topweight King Lear could be a big danger, however, along with Auld Toon Loon who enjoyed no luck at Ayr last Thursday.

16:30 Beyond Borders (NAP)

Another Gift was well clear of the third at Yarmouth last week so it’s quite possible the handicapper still hasn’t quite got to the bottom of her. Free Nation and Hello Cotai are nursery newcomers with potential but the two to focus on may be Swordplay and BEYOND BORDERS (NAP).

The selection finished off well in a strongly run nursery at Wolverhampton three weeks ago and a 6lb rise may well not prevent a follow-up.

17:05 Rogue Tornado

Baltic hasn’t shown much to date but he could be seen in a very different light now handicapping and the market needs checking. ROGUE TORNADO might be the answer provided a sound surface isn’t important to him. Dashing Panther has his sights lowered and is another must for the shortlist.

17:40 Mersea

It seems likely that King’s Crown will be staging a revival sooner rather than later and he would make some appeal on good or faster ground. He might get away with good to soft but it looks set to suit others more. Milbanke,

The Dunkirk Lads and Roundhay Park (second choice) all make some appeal but MERSEA ran creditably behind some useful and in-form fillies here last week and she may be the answer in this lesser event.
