14:05 – JUNGLE JIM

JUNGLE JIM shaped with plenty of promise when runner-up in a reasonable maiden at Thirsk last month and, having been gelded since, further progress looks forthcoming. With Buick taking over, he’s marginally preferred to Mashadi, who sets the clear standard but has had four goes and has moved yards since failing to land the odds at Brighton. Of the others, Starring Role could be a different proposition this time.

14:40 – TIMES EDITION

TIMES EDITION has an excellent pedigree – she is a half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf Newspaperofrecord – and she shaped with plenty of promise on debut when finishing third at Salisbury earlier this month. She showed clear signs of inexperience but learnt as the race wore on to finish behind two promising and more prominently ridden rivals. That looks a solid piece of form and she will likely prove hard to beat with improvement forthcoming. There is also plenty more to come from Where I Wanna Be and she’s feared, while Lisbon Heat is an interesting newcomer.

15:15 – KNICKS

KNICKS remains a maiden but he has shaped well in both of his starts in handicaps and looks a winner-in-waiting. He was strong in the betting dropped to six furlongs at Carlisle 13 days ago and probably would have won had he gotten a clear run, caught in a pocket at a crucial time before finishing to good effect. He races from just 1 lb higher now but is clearly on a good mark and he looks a big player. Eminny found some improvement on her most recent outing at Sandown and must enter calculations, along with Charlie Mason, who’s took his form up a notch since being fitted with a visor.

15:50 – PINAFORE

PINAFORE bolted up over this course and distance two starts back, showing much improved form in first-time cheekpieces, but she wasn’t able to back that effort up pitched into a much deeper handicap and dropped to five furlongs at York last time. She remains fairly treated, however, and much better is expected now returned to this venue and in a weaker race. The main danger may emerge from Billyjoh, who shaped encouragingly taking on his elders for the first time earlier this month, and is still not quite the finished article.

16:25 – OLYMPICUS

Having taken a while to come to hand for his current stable, OLYMPICUS put it all together when beating Hakuna Babe at Newmarket last time, having enough in hand to hold off a strong challenge at the finish. He has an excellent pedigree and it is hard to think he hasn’t got even more to offer now up and running, so he is taken to confirm that form and win again from a 3 lb higher mark. Golden Maverick is another one to consider.

17:00 – ALHAMBRA PALACE

It is perhaps best to narrow this down to the three-year-olds, with ALHAMBRA PALACE, who was a fine fifth in the strong Melrose handicap at York’s Ebor meeting last month, narrowly preferred to Ralph Beckett’s Roost. Alhambra Palace was progressive prior to that and didn’t seem to let himself down fully on firmer ground at York, but conditions should be more in his favour now. Alpine Stroll’s good Nottingham record, including reaching a place in this 12 months ago, earns him a place on the shortlist, while Cool Henry can shrug off a rare below-par run last time and also play a part in a competitive staying handicap.

17:35 – STRONGBOWE

In a wide-open contest the vote goes to STRONGBOWE, whose latest win came at Carlisle in July from a 1 lb lower mark. He wasn’t seen to best effect at Southwell last time, not ideally placed given how the race panned out and finishing never nearer than at the finish. He goes particularly well in soft ground and could be the one to beat from this sort of mark. Equion and Goldsmith head the list of dangers.
