A weak contest where, after showing improvement last time out, SURGING TIDE could kick on again now upped in trip and make a winning nursery debut. The more experienced Due Consideration sets the standard but may prove vulnerable to the selection after his 4lb rise, while Seahorse Syd is the other runner of most interest.
A few with chances but it’s hard to side against recent Kempton scorer GEELONG (nap), who looks weighted to go in again turned out under a 5lb penalty for that wide-margin success. C&D winner Visitant and Bath victor Silver Atom should ensure Paul & Oliver Cole’s 4yo doesn’t have things all his own way this time though. In-form pair Lawmans Blis and Ana Emaraaty need factoring in too.
Not so competitive as the numbers suggest, and Nigel Tinkler’s likeable and progressive 3yo GOBLET OF FIRE can overcome a career-high mark to register his fourth success of the season. Spirit Of Ash was on her A-game when going in over C&D last time and rates a big threat if in the same form, while Ice Shadow and Metric need factoring in too.
Miss Black Jack’s latest Cork fourth represents rock-solid form and she’ll be a danger to all if her stamina holds out upped to 7f. Giudecca (second choice) has shown enough to win a similar race but ERANTHIS travelled notably well on her Haydock debut before inexperience cost her dear when coming under pressure. She should be more streetwise today and can confirm that initial promise.
It would be no surprise if Ribble River, with his Tapeta connections, proved good enough to make a winning debut and the market might be enlightening. Blenheim Star showed plenty on her Lingfield debut but this hooded filly didn’t look the easiest of rides and she has to negotiate the lowest draw. ARANTES NASCIMENTO improved significantly for his debut when fourth at Musselburgh recently and it’s reasonable to think he has further improvement to come.
We should learn a fair bit from this but with none of those that have racecourse experience having shown much, the suggestion is SWEET TALKIN SUE, who represents a trainer who has the best record in these races. Marco Botti is 4-20 with AW juveniles this season, hinting that Teddy Brown may emerge as a player, while Yokohama is the other runner to catch the eye on pedigree. A much better run by Venture Capital would not surprise.
Lots of possibles with the class-dropping Rhythm, the potentially well-treated Crypto Quest and in-form Rainbow Rain all coming into the reckoning. Revolucion (second choice) looks set for another big run but it might be worth taking a chance on HIGHER LAW. He looked a winner-in-waiting on his stable debut in June and it’s easy to excuse two subsequent defeats.
There’s an open look to this contest and the suggestion is REBELLE LADY, who showed a marked improvement last time, looks likely to be suited by the return to this trip and may have got in lightly for her handicap debut. Sparkling Spirit can come on for this step up in trip and may be able to kick on again for it. She could pose a big threat, while Urban Road and Rockin Rosa are not ruled out.
