This Group 2 over a mile has just the six runners and jockey bookings for the Aidan O’Brien trio will be key. NavySeal won at Galway on heavy ground and was really well backed and he has such a high-knee action he definitely needs soft ground to show his best. He’s well-bred being a brother to Never Ending Story and while Navy Seal mightn’t turn out to be a superstar for Ballydoyle, he can prove very useful as an Autumn campaigner.
A full-field 5f handicap in contrast now where Johnny Murtagh’s Silmaniya has been knocking on the door all season. She’s been runner-up on her last two starts and went off fav last time out when just behind The Highway Rat over this trip. She’s only gone up 1lb for that effort although soft ground is an unknown.
The Group 3 Renaissance Stakes gives Ocean Quest the chance to get another Group 3 contest on her CV after a convincing win at Naas last time. She’s been running well all season for trainer Jessica Harrington and was only two and a half lengths fourth behind Shaquille at Royal Ascot. She still looks to be improving.
The feature race of the day is the mega-bucks 2m Cesarewitch handicap where Echoes in Rain is rated 6lbs higher than when second to last-gasp winner Waterville. She seems to be maturing every year and had a nice prep for this when third to Thunder Roll at Galway over 1m 4f earlier this month. That trip is probably too short for her now but is worth taking a chance back up to two miles in Sunday’s feature.
