The lightly raced three year old PETE THE BRIEF got off the mark in a handicap at Redcar last month and is taken to follow up. Cases can also be made for Billy McGarry, Jewel Of Kabeir and Hidden Code but perhaps Mr Heinz will be the main danger now back down in trip.
The filly MISS ANYA has shown pace when runner-up over 6f the last twice (including on soft ground) and is taken to capitalise on the drop in trip. Rogue Enforcer went close at Ripon on his second start and may be the chief threat ahead of Always Love you, while Ingleby Archie and Willolarupi could also be in the mix.
An interesting contest. Sovereign Queen made a big step up from her debut effort at Leicester last time. It would be no surprise if she proved good enough but her pedigree hints that soft ground is a concern. Cloudy Skye, Hug A Tree and May are others who could have a say but marginal preference is for LOCAL ARMS, whose sire and dam both won on soft ground. Her debut effort gave cause for optimism that she can win this.
An interesting contest in which Lady Nunthorpe is the pick on form and also has same course and distance (C&D) form. However, she also needs to prove she handles these conditions and could be vulnerable to an improver in the form of REPRISED.
Karl Burke’s filly showed some promise first time out and is taken to build markedly on that. Another of that ilk looks to be Enchanting, who is respected, while Gloves looks the most interesting of the newcomers.
Ey Up It’s Maggie has conditions to suit and looks sure to go well, while Rodborough will likely be a danger if she can translate her improved AW form to turf. However, the suggestion is COUNT DORSAY (NAP), who also has the ground in his favour and he’s better than he was able to show from a poor draw at Chester last time, form which is working out well.
The step up in trip could prompt a first win from LOHENGRIN, who has kept on nicely over 7f/1m on his first two starts. Lope De Light has also shown promise on both outings and he is next on the list ahead of Carlisle runner-up Man Of Monaco and the filly Wilding.
Contrast put a disappointing effort behind him last time out and should again be a big player, with Blue Yonder another who could be involved after he looked like getting back on track last time. Dandy’s Angel is respected but the suggestion is PARK STREET, who goes well here and could have more to give now he is back up in trip.
He may not be as good as he was a couple of years ago but Bay Of Naples showed last time that he is still a force to be reckoned with on his day, and with no penalty for winning at Leicester he has to be taken very seriously.
Billy Roberts is a standing dish here and can again have a big day. However, on his first start for Edward Bethell and with a 5lb drop, it could be worth chancing FRANKENDAEL, who may be capable of repeating last season’s soft-ground C&D win.
