13:40 Man Of The Sea
One of the most interesting runners in this field in MAN OF THE SEA, who is a regular at Les Landes in Jersey and he is potentially well treated back in a conventional handicap on these shores. His last win in Britain came over hurdles at Stratford in October last year from a BHA mark of 99, so a mark of 57 back on the level is attractive, and the booking of leading amateur rider Simon Walker is a sign of intent. Fen Tiger is sure to be plugging on, with Idilico one to monitor in the market for a new yard down in class.
14:15 Quickfire
QUICKFIRE showed improved form to open his account in a seven-furlong maiden at Lingfield in June and ran his best race since when runner-up in a nursery at Salisbury earlier this month on his first try at a mile. He proved no match for the winner, who made the most of a good opportunity, but he is now 2 lb lower in the weights and may have more to offer at this trip. Tactical Control is feared most in his bid for a breakthrough success ahead of another in-form maiden Blue Collar.

14:50 Rocket Warrior
ROCKET WARRIOR was well held on his debut in soft ground at Doncaster but he left that form well behind under less-testing conditions when hitting the frame at Yarmouth last month. He shaped like he still had something to learn, hanging left under pressure from over a furlong out but he kept on despite losing third at the line. The step up to a mile may bring about further improvement and he makes the most appeal ahead of Continuance, who also remains with potential on the back of his recent Goodwood fifth.
15:25 Beggarman
A competitive handicap with plenty arriving in top form, and a tentative vote goes to BEGGARMAN, who has been holding his form well of late, finishing runner-up on his last two starts at this course, including over course and distance. Interestingly, first-time eyeshields and a visor replace cheekpieces and this more severe headgear may eke out a bit more. Lusaka, Cherry Cola and Zillion are a trio of potential threats.
16:00 Secret Handsheikh
SECRET HANDSHEIKH had been shaping well, leaving the impression he was ready to strike, and he improved on recent efforts to resume winning ways at Brighton on Monday, turning in his best performance for a while. He was very well backed to do so, too, and he never really gave his supporters anything to worry about, making all of the running and streaking clear in the closing stages. Connections have wisely turned him out under a penalty and he will be hard to beat if in the same form. Delagate This Lord wasn’t seen to best effect in his hat-trick bid over course and distance last month and is better judged on his previous form as a result, while three-year-old Cluedo completes the shortlist.

16:35 Suanni
SUANNI is on a lengthy losing run, but he is a past winner over course and distance, and he has fallen quite a way in the weights. He also ran one of his better races of the season when hitting the frame at Wolverhampton last week, the return of blinkers appearing to perk him up a little and he was only headed in the final 100 yards. He is 1 lb lower now and may be worth chancing in an open race. We’re Reunited, who was runner-up here last time, is an obvious danger and Malham Tarn Cove is likely to be back on his game.
17:10 Lord Clenaghcastle
LORD CLENAGHCASTLE made a solid start for his new stable when runner-up at Brighton 12 days ago, racing from out of the weights but proving he retains all of his ability, and he’s well handicapped on past exploits, so he gets the vote in a weak event for an in-form yard. Lilandra arrives in good order and should pose a threat, while Galactic Glow is expected to bounce back from a poor showing.
17:45 Kenstone
KENSTONE is now a 10-year-old but he belatedly took advantage of a reduced mark over a mile at Chepstow earlier this season and he has held his form well since, finishing runner-up over the same course and distance on his latest start three weeks ago. He generally goes well round here, too, and he is taken to go well again on his first start at this track this year from 1 lb higher. Villalobos returned to form at Lingfield 10 days ago and he’s a threat, along with Alyara.
