13:50 Doncaster – Warm Spell (Cambridge Evening News)

WARM SPELL has been a tad awkward leaving the stalls on both starts but has shown promise on each occasion, finishing second at Goodwood (6f, good to firm) then winning at Newbury (7f, good); further improvement needed now up in grade but he’s a likeable prospect and he’s in top hands.

15:00 Doncaster – Coltrane (Norwich Evening News)

One year ago Trueshan was 2-9 to win the Doncaster Cup but wandered about while delivering his challenge and it was COLTRANE who prevailed in determined fashion by a neck.

The positions were reversed at Ascot the following month but this season it’s Coltrane who has been in the form of his life, whereas there was something missing in Trueshan’s two performances in the spring. Trueshan is consequently relatively fresh and had wind surgery in May but there is now something to be taken on trust with him and Coltrane looks the more solid candidate.

15:20 Chester – Wonderwall (Racing Post)

Jim Goldie’s pair Two Auld Pals and Baez have improved in recent months and hold claims, albeit with latter yet to prove she’s as effective on today’s slower ground.

Like those two, East End Girl arrives on a career-high mark, in her case having been found an uncompetitive Tapeta handicap last time, and preference is for WONDERWALL, a pretty useful hurdler who’ll appreciate the much stiffer Flat test now handicapping.

17:05 Chester – Dodgy Bob (Liverpool Echo)

DODGY BOB has won three times in 2023, including latterly in a tight finish to a Class 6 amateur jockeys’ handicap at Thirsk (6f, good; 25-1); has the stamina reserves, good each-way value here.
