Having finished fifth behind a well-fancied stablemate over a longer trip here at the festival, Alvaniy should do better. However, the vote goes to HASHTAG PRETENDER, who was no match for a Mullins-trained odds-on shot at Tramore but is better judged on his previous Roscommon third. Harley Street may also be in the mix.
Some useful bumper and maiden hurdle form gives TOMAS O MAILLE a solid each-way chance in his first handicap. Sligo fourth Makfils has prospects along with Listentillitellyea who was behind him then but has a definite chance on the basis of a previous Ballinrobe second. Cozone and Realism may also feature.
Having run a fine race on Flat bow last time at Killarney after a break, SEDDON (NAP) is well-treated at these weights and can get back on the scoresheet. Winter Fog was disappointing at Kilbeggan last time behind Macgiloney but can turn that form around.
Tullyhogue Fort won a division of this race last year and should be a major player again. However, BLACK TONIC could be up to getting off the mark if none the worse for his Killarney unseat last time when looking sure to go close. Father Jed and Dunleer Phoenix should be involved.
Several of these have a squeak. BLUE IN THE WEST is worth chancing with improvement likely from his handicap debut at Tramore. Getaway Master should also improve from his decent fourth at Kilbeggan. Sittingonthefence has a 6lb rise to deal with for a narrow Sligo win, while Nuttoridge, Amazing Amy, and Delias Pet are others that could run well.
The weight allowance for four-year-olds gives CALICO good prospects if she can jump well enough on her first attempt over fences. She went close off 128 in a handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe a fortnight ago and gets 17lb from 130-rated hurdler Annexation. With two chase runs under his belt Rexem has to be taken seriously. Hazelhatch Lady has been in good form over hurdles.
The runner-up from the race that IRIDESCENT won last time at Wexford scored nicely since at the same course, so he can notch another win despite a 9lb rise. Norwigi is up 8lb for her Killarney win but this faster ground is perhaps not her ideal conditions. Slige Dala ran well enough last time and has a chance.
The Willie Mullins-trained newcomer Just For Love is almost sure to be involved, but THEFLYINGBEE and Shannon Bank finished in front of a favourite from that source here at the festival. Both have a fighting chance, and slight preference is for Finbarr Hand’s mare.
