Horse Racing tips: Ruby Walsh’s fine fancies for Saturday’s ITV Racing
It's Betfair Sprint Cup Day at Haydock and we've got the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown - and Ruby says Caius Chorister in the 15:00 is his NAP of the day.
Quinault has won over 7f at Brighton and I understand that’s more downhill but it’s still the same distance. He lost his winning streak last time out at Ascot but he can get back to winning ways with Luke Catton taking 5lbs off.
The defeat in the Newmarket 1,000 Guineas was the making of Tahiyra. She learnt a lot in defeat that day and did well to get out of a bad spot in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. It was a messy Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot too so she’s had to dig in for her last two wins. She’s the one to beat.
Caius Chorister was unlucky in the Ebor and he came home with a bit of running in his legs. He only ran a couple of weeks ago but he can make amends for missing out on the Ebor.
Alsakib was a little unlucky at Goodwood last time out and he should have finished second that day. He’s going up in trip for Andrew Balding and that should suit.
A lot of these horses have something to prove and this is a deep race. I have doubts over Auguste Rodin, King of Steel and Alflaila so I’m with Onesto for Fabrice Chappet and Frankie Dettori. He ran well behind Inspiral at Deauville over a mile on his reappearance run and the Irish Champion Stakes has been his target. He was runner-up last year and having Frankie Dettori on board is also a boost.
How do you oppose Shaquille? Even with his antics at Ascot, he still won and despite missing the break at Newmarket, he ran away and won the race. If Shaquille gets down to the start and into the stalls, it’s too hard to oppose Shaquille.

13:35 Kempton – Bay Bridge
Bay Bridge should have too much class for the rest of these and he can bolt up for Richard Kingscote and Sir Michael Stoute.
13:50 Haydock – Light Infantry
Light Infantry should be the one to beat. A repeat of his run at Ascot or Deavuille will be enough to win.
14:25 Haydock – Denmark
Denmark should improve after finishing second in the Melrose at York behind Middle Earth. He was unlucky that day and he can go one better at Haydock.
14:35 Ascot – Quinault
