Top of the list is HURRICANE POWER, who took another major step forward when a front-running second over C&D last Saturday and sets a good standard on that near miss. The well-regarded Fool’s Gold made a promising start at Newmarket last month and could pose a serious threat if he can build on that. Third choice is Roger Varian’s Flavour Maker, who ran better than the bare facts on his Salisbury debut and should know much more this time.

Cuban Harry was an eyecatcher at Newmarket last month and has claims if he can build on that on this drop in trip. Starring Role looks the part on paper and is an interesting contender for Andrew Balding, while there are some other well-bred newcomers who also need watching in the market. However, the vote goes to HAVANAGREATTIME, who has reached the frame in all of his three runs, including a strong-finishing second at Lingfield last time.
17:30 Al Hajaija
Preference is for AL HUJAIJA, who has finished runner-up in two of her four starts including a front-running second behind a progressive rival at Goodwood last Saturday. Falling For You is the main form danger but the biggest threat could come from Activated, who has plenty of speed in her pedigree and made a promising start over same course and distance (C&D) last month. Ralph Beckett’s Invincible Molly is another interesting contender, while Archie Watson’s newcomer Viennoise needs watching in the market
18:00 Five Towns
A competitive race in which the vote goes to FIVE TOWNS, who resumed her progress when runner-up in a Haydock handicap in June and that form received a major boost when the winner went close in a Listed race next time. Recent Doncaster scorer Purple Love is feared most ahead of another unexposed handicap newcomer in Prisha, who landed the odds at Yarmouth on her last run in July.

18:30 Rhubarb
Plenty have possibilities but the vote goes to four-time winner RHUBARB, who finished well to go close in a big field at Chepstow last time and is a major player if she can back that up. Recent Yarmouth winner Deep Spirit is feared most, although Essme is respected back at 6f and Bungle Bay looks interesting on his drop back in grade. Tilsworth Ony Ta has been placed in his last four runs and has each-way claims again, while Sparked and Nubough also enter the reckoning.
19:00 Mrembo (NAP)
Veteran It’s How We Roll (second choice) was just edged out at Brighton last time so seems sure to have a say in his bid for a fourth C&D success. However, it’s hard to side against in-form filly MREMBO (NAP) who goes unpenalised for her recent comfortable Bath success. Mujid, Largo Bay and Charlie Arthur can fight it out for minor honours.
19:30 Barneys Angel
Plenty are in with a shout. Recent scorers Kentucky Kingdom and Fullforward must enter calculations along with the progressive Portoro, while consistent duo Galactic Glow and Trojan Truth (second choice) are two more with solid credentials. BARNEYS ANGEL signalled his turn is near when an excellent Nottingham second last time, however, and he can gain a deserved breakthrough success.
