Lord Bertie fetched €500,000 as a yearling and he showed plenty of ability when a close-up third behind Chaldean in a strong novice on debut at Newbury last season, losing out by only three-quarters of a length and a head. He confirmed that promise when comfortably getting off the mark at Ffos Las on what proved to be his final start last season and he looked like a smart performer when making a winning reappearance at Thirsk last month. Lord Bertie, who had been gelded prior to his return, was presented with a good opportunity at Thirsk but he still deserves credit for winning by such a wide margin, drawing 12 lengths clear. There should be more to come from the lightly-raced three-year-old and he has the advantage of breaking from the inside stall.
Infinity Blue finished down the field on debut at Newbury but he offered a lot more promise when third at Newmarket last month in a novice that has worked out well. Infinity Blue, a 250,000 guineas purchase as a yearling, is out of a half-sister to the very smart Group 1 winner Xtension and should still have more to offer for top connections.
Irish recruit Profitable Edge shaped well when runner-up on her first start for David and Nicola Barron at Redcar in June and she built on that to get off the mark in dominant fashion at Ripon last month. She has stepped up considerably on what she showed in Ireland for her previous stable and, with more to offer for this yard, a 6 lb rise in the weights may not be enough to stop her following up.
Military Order failed to beat a rival in the Derby but quick ground on that quirky, downhill track may not have suited such a big colt. The full brother to Adayar had created an excellent impression prior to that, notably when winning the Lingfield Derby Trial, and he remains one to be positive about on his return from a break.
Great Generation looked a useful prospect when making a winning start at Haydock last month – the front pair pulled clear – and she is entitled to improve with that experience under her belt. She can make the most of the weight she receives from Jabaara to extend the unbeaten start to her career.
Call Me Ginger enjoyed a productive campaign last season, winning on three occasions, including the Portland Handicap at Doncaster. He’s still searching for a first success this season but he’s been sliding in the weights and he shaped well when beaten only a length and a half into seventh at Sandown a couple of weeks ago, leaving the impression that he’s ready to capitalise on his reduced mark.
Seahouses may not be the most straightforward but he arrives here on the back of a couple of creditable efforts and appeals as being on a competitive mark. Seahouses found only one too strong on his penultimate outing at Salisbury and then ran to a similar level when fifth in a valuable event for the grade on his first attempt at two miles at Nottingham last time. He is worth another chance.
