13:40 – Curious Rover
Curious Rover produced an encouraging performance when third in a seven-furlong maiden at Musselburgh on debut and he built on that promise to finish runner-up over six furlongs at Ayr last time, showing plenty of zip down in trip. He sets a good standard based on his latest effort and he showed enough pace at Ayr to suggest he can cope with the drop to the minimum distance here.
14:10 – Big Cheese
Big Cheese remains a maiden but ran creditably when last seen finishing fourth in a mile-and-a-half handicap at Pontefract last month. That was a better contest than this one and, with blinkers replacing cheekpieces, he could be worth chancing for Ed Bethell whose team remain in fine form.
14:40 – Albegone
Albegone was only narrowly denied at Ripon on his penultimate start and confirmed that return to form when scoring at Catterick last week, leading inside the final half-furlong and proving well on top at the finish. He saw off a pair of last-time-out winners on that occasion and, clearly back in good form, a 5 lb penalty should not be enough to stop him following up off a mark that remains 5 lb below his last winning one.
15:10 – Langholm
Langholm is on a long losing run that stretches back to May 2022 but he has been knocking on the door of late and was only narrowly denied over course and distance on his penultimate start, while he also ran well to finish third in a seven-furlong handicap here last week. He showed good pace last time, leaving the impression that he’d be worth dropping back in trip again, and he ought to launch a bold bid off a mark that remains 2 lb below his last winning one.

15:45 – Mezzo Soprano
Mezzo Soprano fetched €360,000 at the breeze-up sales last year and is out of a mare that was an impressive debut winner, so she takes the eye on her first outing. She starts out for the Crisfords with the stable in good order.
16:15 – Highland Queen
Highland Queen shaped well when runner-up to Elettaria at Carlisle last week and can reverse the form on 5 lb better terms. Highland Queen impressed with how well she travelled at Carlisle but, after racing prominently in a contest run at a sound gallop, was collared close home by one ridden with more patience. This sharper track placing more emphasis on speed ought to suit Highland Queen.
16:45 – Doomsday
Doomsday was disappointing at Wolverhampton last time but had gone close on his two previous outings, including when runner-up over this course and distance. Doomsday was only denied by a neck on that occasion and deserves some extra credit having never been far off a strong gallop, while it’s worth noting that his sole success was achieved over this course and distance last season.
