14:30 – Crimson Spirit

CRIMSON SPIRIT was too green to do himself justice on debut at Bath last month, but left that form well behind when hitting the frame at Nottingham last time, proving much sharper. He was upsides and still held every chance entering the final furlong but not having the pace in the closing stages. This step up in trip will be in his favour now and he just about edges it in a tight maiden. Get Jiggy With It brings the best form to the table and gets weight all round so she’s an obvious threat.

15:05 – New Business

Only six runners are set to go to post for this handicap but you can’t rule any of them out. The Andrew Balding-trained NEW BUSINESS built on previous promise when opening his account over this trip at Kempton in June, not extended to beat a subsequent winner. He was well supported on the back of that for his handicap debut at Sandown last month, but he didn’t progress as expected, proving too keen and having nothing left in the closing stages. That was a competitive three-year-old handicap and the form is working out, so he is well worth another chance to prove himself well weighted now taking on his elders. Both Marlay Park and Chartwell House arrive in good nick and have winning course and distance form so could emerge as the chief threats.

15:40 – Warhol

This is an open renewal of the amateur riders’ Derby but preference is for WARHOL, who is entitled to come on for his latest run here when returning from a break of almost three months and the booking of top amateur Simon Walker adds to his appeal. The 2021 winner of this race, Captain Haddock, is lurking on an attractive mark and may emerge as the main danger, provided he doesn’t get caught too far back, while recent wide-margin Pontefract winner Citizen General and Restorer are others to consider.

16:15 – Oh So Grand

OH SO GRAND shaped better than the bare result on his debut and showed improved form to open her account at Bath next time, seeming to be better suited by more positive riding tactics. She followed up under a penalty in grand style at Wolverhampton last month, looking a most progressive horse, though she failed to justify support on her handicap debut at Lingfield last time. That was a muddling race, however, so it is probably best not to judge her too harshly on that effort, and she is well worth backing to bounce back. Ribal remains a maiden but also has form in the book to make him of interest.

16:50 – Bowland Park

BOWLAND PARK hasn’t won for over two years, but he started this season from a career-low mark and has shaped well to finish placed both starts back this summer. He finished third in a mile handicap at Thirsk last time, but was reported to have thumps by the Veterinary Officer post race, and he is a classy horse for this level. He can resume winning ways, likely at the main expense if Bobby Dassler, who had heavy ground as an excuse last time and had run well at this course prior to that.

17:20 – Desert Falcon

Three-year-olds DESERT FALCON and Capital Guarantee make the most appeal. Cheekpieces are likely to bring about more improvement from Sir Mark Prescott’s progressive charge and he gets the narrow vote over his hat-trick seeking rival. La Maquina and Larado, the latter a winner on this card last year, lurk on tempting marks and could go well.
